Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California appeared to let the cat out of the bag on Thursday with regard to why the National Guard is still in the country’s capital in large numbers more than three weeks after President Joe Biden’s inauguration.
In remarks during Trump’s Senate impeachment trial, Lieu appeared to imply that troops are still treating Washington, D.C., as an occupied military zone because the former president will not bend the knee and disavow his stance that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
To put it more simply, Lieu appeared to state that if Trump were to simply concede the election, all of those troops would go back to where they came from. Back to warm beds and away from freezing parking garages.
“[Trump] needed to unequivocally condemn the [Capitol] attack, but he also needed to mean those words,” said Lieu in front of the Senate.
“You saw Donald Trump tweet endless attacks, sometimes 108 tweets in a day, and in public speeches and across rallies, repeating words of ‘fight’ and ‘stop the steal’ and ‘never surrender.’”
The Democrat then played up what he said was Trump’s ability to reach people.
Perhaps if Lieu possessed the ability to inspire others, he wouldn’t be relegated to being one of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s errand boys. In any event, that’s essentially what Lieu is — and he is working double-time to please the madame.
“You know what it looks like when President Trump wants to convey a message. Forcefully, loudly and repeatedly, he does that,” he said, in reference to a clip of Trump’s Jan. 6 address to his supporters in Washington.

And ALL they had to do was to LOOK at the evidence the Trump team and those bunch of states had to present.
This is all on THEM.
Troops were called in while Trump was POTUS.
WHO called them in then? and WHY?
No one has answered that........
Good point. Who did order their presence? I perhaps mistakingly thought it was President Trump
Trump/Milley authorized it prior to the "inauguration".
I believe there is no change from that as of today. Bitem/Pelousy/Shoe-mer (or the actors playing them) could not remove them, if they so decided to do so.
Ted Lieu is a nutburger.
Or Biden’s thugs are setting the stage for a commie coup...
Are National guard troops getting indoctrination briefings? Being taught to wallow in white guilt or gush over commie ‘solutions?’
American wants to know and the corrupt butt-kissers in the press won’t cover it ... being the propaganda arm of democrat party and all...
Ha. Lieu is a Q follower.
“Good point. Who did order their presence? I perhaps mistakingly thought it was President Trump”
There were claims that Biden requested the troops because he was afraid Trump might stop the ceremony. Biden and his advisors were told there was intel pointing to such a possibility. I don’t remember which agency was said to have given the info to Biden.
In other words, if the rightful leader would abdicate, then a coup would not be necessary.
There you go.. I think you've got it figured out....
Hard time believing Biden can’t remove them.
Something in me says they still fear a Trump attempt to return to power - by force.
But then, that’s simple logic......so something else may be going on.
Weird.
South Vietnam was 67,000 square miles about the same size as Oklahoma and it took half a million soldiers to pacify it.

Permit me to slightly disagree. Already, States are pushing back against any potential gun legislation. And the reported 6-10K troops stationed there without battle-ready logistics are merely a compliment to the local law enforcement.
If however, they return to a full-court-press, well...
In my comments, I try NOT to speculate as much as possible, but I’ll make an exception here based on statements from leaders of the opposition, and simple mathematics.
I’ll be blunt: I’m more concerned with the collapse of the dollar, and its ultimate rejection as the world currency standard. This is based on a) Janet Yellen openly talking about trying to regulate a new currency (meaning losing confidence in our own) and b) these oh-so-wonderful “covid stimulus” checks that simply amounts to printing money out of thin air.
One can easily speculate how the 2020 lockdowns will affect the bottom line of the 2021 tax receipts - with no printing machine let up in sight.
If/when we wake up one morning with ATM machines not working, bank websites offline, or all things working normal with say a zero being lopped off our total bank/retirement balance, the “Military District” of Washington’s direct threat probably won’t be from team MAGA; as we’ll be busy hunkering down.
No, this threat would be more local - the poor souls who have been servicing that federal plantation who are suddenly penniless.
... and if that happens, 20K National Guard troops might not be enough.
just my $0.02.

They know they lack democratic legitimacy in the eyes of the people. A plurality of Americans believes the election was fraudulent. That plurality has grown - not shrunk - since the election.
...soldiers whose families didn't live in the same country or on the same continent.

The trial for the cops in the George Floyd brouhaha starts sometime in March. IIRC its going to be a televised event.
BLM and Antifa will start tearing stuff up again. People in DC and other urban areas, will start yapping about imaginary white supremacists.
Might as well keep the National Guard there, instead of redeploying them back to DC in a month.
That really has the optics of military coup d’état.
Maybe the people of Burma or Belarus should denounce it!
Putin sort of did, by comparing his treatment of Navalny to Bidet treatment of the opposition.
