Lindsey joins Democrats in approving Trump witnesses, tweets about delays

Lindsey Graham joins Democrats in backing witnesses, saying, ‘If you want a delay, it will be a long one with many, many witnesses.’

Former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial looked on track to last longer than expected after the Senate voted on Saturday morning in favor of calling witnesses.

Witnesses hadn’t been expected in the proceedings, but the lead House manager, Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, said on Saturday morning that his team wanted to call Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington state after she released a statement late Friday that said Trump on Jan. 6 resisted telling his supporters to stop storming the Capitol.

Those five GOP senators included four known for criticizing Trump — Maine’s Susan Collins, Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski, Utah’s Mitt Romney and Nebraska’s Ben Sasse. South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham, a Trump ally, also voted for calling witnesses, after tweeting on Saturday morning that, “If you want a delay, it will be a long one with many, many witnesses.”

Graham switched his vote to aye because you have to be on the winning side of an issue to call for a re-vote. It was a strategic move, not an anti-Trump move.

Concur; why are so many posters seemingly so knee-jerk in emotional reaction and oblivious to critical thinking and analysis ? It coarsens the discourse.

The Senate on Saturday afternoon backtracked on its earlier move to have witnesses in former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, leading the chamber into hearing closing arguments. House managers and Trump’s defense lawyers reached an agreement to admit as evidence Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s statement that said Trump on Jan. 6 resisted telling his supporters to stop storming the Capitol. The House managers who are serving as prosecutors previously said they wanted to call the congresswoman as a witness.

Trump supporters, at least, are not even watching this charade. The Senate is living in a true echo chamber. The problem the Senate is going to have would be any conviction would be adjudicated in a Federal Court. Even Schumer does not a single Federal Judge to declare the Senate acted unconstitutionally. That would be his historical legacy, nothing else he has ever done will matter. Bye the way, I would call Joe Biden based on his comments that ANTIFA is a concept during the debates let him explain why Trump supporters are terrorists and ANTIFA is a concept.
