Queensland University and Oxford University Medical researchers investigating why asthma sufferers were “under-represented” in severe Covid cases have completed a clinical trial of Budesonide asthma inhalers. According to researchers the randomised trial was stopped early, because the results were so remarkable, the researchers did not believe it ethical to deny treatment to placebo patients.
Over-the-counter inhalers suppress severe COVID symptoms, trial finds

QUT associate professor Dan Nicolau, one of the lead researchers on the trial at the University of Oxford, said the results showed the method was extremely effective at preventing severe COVID-19 symptoms.
“When we first began the trial back in March [2020], we were hoping for 50 per cent reduction [in risk of developing serious symptoms], which itself would have been very high,” he said.
“We got 90 per cent, which even with only a few hundred people is off the charts.
“And it’s not just the overall result – their temperatures are less, they get less fever, and they recover faster.”
Professor Nicolau said they realised in the early stages of the pandemic that people with asthma were under-represented in severe and fatal cases of COVID-19.

The randomised trial ended up looking at 146 patients, who were given regular doses of either corticosteroid budesonide via an inhaler, or a placebo.

If other teams confirm this finding, it is a remarkable breakthrough. And confirmation should be very straightforward, given the widespread availability of this inhaler.

How could you possibly question someone with those credentials!?
Do i really need the < /s>?
Thanks.
Yes, I heard some Dr. on TV saying to go get the OTC inhalers, as they would be helpful—that was months ago. Just one short blurb and then KaBoom down the memory hole.
I was wondering the same thing since I have an albuterol inhaler. Albuterol is not a steroid so I don't think it would work the same.
Lol!
I’ll be getting a few soon.
I used it for years for my asthma, but it is expensive.
they already know that the fatal complication of covid is not from the virus but from the over active immune system. They use prednisone type medicines to treat this, so of course an inhaler would work.
two months ago, I got a very bad infection with shortness of breath, and took Zithromax and prednisone and it started going away after a day. I still don't know if it was just asthmatic bronchitis, or an early covid infection because here in the Philippines I didn't feel like going to get a test.
Hydrochloroquin, Ivermectin, and now Colchisine have shown some effects to lower death rates. The problem? Like all anti virals they have to be given early to work, when there are few symptoms. And they only decrease the cure rate so are not a magic cure.
This inhaler and prednisone don't stop the virus but the lung problem that develops later: So it could be given to those with symptoms.
That’s all very interesting. It’s too bad that politics had to get in the middle of the treatments.

On second thought, tell the bastards. I would love to see them all die of shame (but they have no shame so we will have to just kick their asses out of various offices and orafices.

Sounds all to sinister to me. Todays tech we all enjoy is a by product and a very minute dribble allowed to the public. Just imagine what they have and their ability to use it. Just saying keep your eyes open make your own judgements
So many effective treatments for COVID that are being ignored!
I don’t think that Albuterol is a steroid, so it might not be they type of inhaler referred to in the article.
Supposedly a fair portion of the deaths attributed to 1918 Spanish Flu were aspirin overdose.
What brands
Albuterol relaxes inflamed passages allowing easier breathing. Budensonide acts against the inflammation itself. Together they make a potent 1-2 punch!
I use Symbicort for moderate asthma. Budesonide is the primary ingredient. It has worked really well in controlling my asthma but cheap it isn’t. I just got a 3 pack refill and with Medicare and my insurance it cost me over $500. Last year this prescription was a little more than $300.
