Well that is not the whole story. If the IRS thinks you owe them 65k or more they pull your passport and you cannot leave the country.
GD government slackers! As if answering the phone and opening mail is harder just because you’re at home! I’ve noticed the postal system is screwed up too, I got one bill from my CC company in the mail 3 DAYS after it was due!
I got my refund from my March filed return about 3 weeks ago.

Yeah, amended. Realized I goofed on something about 5 minutes after I submitted my initial return. Stupid turbotax buried something that should have been obvious lol.
I’ve been waiting about 19 years to get an answer to a simple question I asked the IRS. Don’t think it is my responsibility to follow up.
Years ago I did my taxes myself. A few weeks later I received a letter from the IRS. It stated that I calculated my taxes wrong and my final number was incorrect. The letter stated that instead of the amount I claimed, it was another number. Theirs ended up being the exact same amount I claimed to the penny. All I could say was “Okay.”

I have been hassling with the IRS for 2 months. The short story—they claimed that I didn’t file my 2019 taxes. But they sure as hell cashed my check in April of last year.
