The song was written by Mort and Selma Craft. They also wrote "Long Lonely Nights," which was recorded by Lee Andrews & the Hearts.

Selma's maiden name was Litvan. Her brother, Hyman Litvan, became the famous Hy Lit of WIBG in Philadelphia.

Hey,   "Hyski O'Rooney McVoutie O'Zoot"!   Also working there at   "WIBBAGE"   back then, was the famous   "Rockin' Bird, Joe Niagara"!   (Ah, the good old days...)        :-)

#42. WIBG (Wibij) - Philly. Jerry Blavit, the Geeker with the Heater. Listened to it for 4 years while in college in the “City of Brotherly Love” and Broad & Diamond drug gangs.

Saw Lee Andrew and the Hearts at college. They were very good. Smooth sound and nice beat. Dressed like gentlemen and sang like angels.
