I was walking through the grocery store 40 years later and heard the tune only on Muzak, and tears sprang to my eyes even though my life is now full and fulfilling. Took me so off guard. Back in the day, I had this enormous plush velvet sofa with real feather cushions that I had trashpicked in the city because of a a few moth holes on the back. I had just been through a break up and so had a neighbor of the opposite sex. We used to lie on that sofa listening to Nilsson Schmilsson in each other's arms—yes, platonically—and listen to each others' hearts breaking when that song would play. Ah, the 70s.
