Where will the Trump presidential library go?
American Thinker ^ | 01/27/2021 | Thomas Lifson

There are two sides to the question of where the eventual Trump presidential library will be built. Where would Donald Trump want it to go? And where would it be allowed to be built?

The two places Trump has chosen to live, New York City and Palm Beach, Florida, are very unlikely to permit construction of what would amount to a monument and pilgrimage site honoring the 45th President of the United States. Partly, that would be based on partisan differences and, face it, the irrational hatred we call Trump Derangement Syndrome. But in the case of Palm Beach, there is also an aversion to crowds, especially what might be perceived as crowds of the hoi polloi.

(I vividly remember the fight over the Kennedy family’s plan to build the JFK Library adjacent to Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Despite his status as a martyred hero in the eyes of locals, the fear of hordes of tourists led to rejection of the plan, and the site – a rail yard for the subway that became redundant when an extension of the line was built – eventually housed Harvard’s new Kennedy School of Government. The JFK Library went to a somewhat desolate point of land sticking into the harbor.)

It is notable that the parts of the country where Trump is most popular, the South, the industrial Midwest, and the non-coastal West, have the least connection to his places of residence.

A friend suggested that Mt. Rushmore might be appropriate, as it is the inspiring site that Trump used for what may be regarded as his best speech. It is already set up to handle crowds of tourists, and carries with it a sense of pilgrimage.

A LOT of it is archived in our heads, and on dedicated laptops all over the globe.

The Chinese Theater (racism!) and all the Hollywood “walk of fame” stars should be bulldozed and the library (with a big attached convention center, casino, and hotel) erected there.

Obama's being a 'liberal' with the folks on the South Side of Chicago...with ALL the groups that like to stir the pot...it could be decades before Obama's library is completed.

(When I was young I often walked over to that park to have lunch... on the far end of where Obama's Library grounds end is a block from where Saul Alinsky had his TWO office on Stoney Island in the early 60's...)

The Trump Hotel is FedGov property. Trump has a lease on it.

Congress will pass a law and Biden will sign it prohibiting any support for a Trump Library. It would have to be a totally private enterprise.

I think that Martin County north of Palm Beach would be a politically congenial location, while the Orlando area also offers several good sites and the potential for tapping one of the world’s largest tourist markets for visitors.

Don’t see why it can’t be located in his old 3-story apartment in Trump Tower. Why should other 5th Avenue stores and restaurants object to a lot of tourists in NYC?

Orlando’s good. West of Orlando - in the hilly areas closer to Lake County even better...

In 2013, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) leased the property for 60 years to a consortium headed by “DJT Holdings LLC”, a holding company that Donald Trump owns through a revocable trust.[2] Trump developed the property into a luxury hotel, the Trump International Hotel Washington, D.C., which opened in September 2016

It’s absolutely gorgeous, too!!

Pictures do NOT do this beautiful hotel it’s full justice.

I’d forgotten that it’s a 60 yr lease.

Nice!

Actually 45 Presidents including Biden. The two Grover Clevelands were the same man.

Maybe Congress will pass a law forbidding any Trump Presidential Library. What's to stop them?

Clermont, for example, is abundant with hills. Many years ago, when I was a boy, my family considered moving there. Employment and schooling though dictated otherwise.

Pretty area... a little further west than I was thinking. I suspect we don’t need to worry about Trump finding the perfect place. Mar-a-largo would be amazing too...
