I don’t hold out any hope for any of them turning around, frankly.

But I wish a couple of them would confess to the shenanigans. On public TV. And soon.

And ask Christ to forgive them for PP and enabling Romans 1:24-28.

Note to CNBC, MSNBC, CNN, FOX News and others:

You can drop the term “impeachment” any time now. Donald John Trump joined the illustrious ranks of Past President just over a week ago, as you must be aware, and no longer qualifies for the honor you and the Democrats wish to bestow on him.

As there is a bit of controversy stemming from repeated use of the term by news organizations, it would seem appropriate to have a qualifier applied if your management insists on calling the charade something that it isn’t.

(“Unproven” was overworked in reporting the challenges as to the validity of several states’ election results, and besides that, refers to events in the past. This so-called impeachment is yet to happen.)

Unprecedented, uncalled for, unconstitutional and vindictive are all proper adjectives that amply describe what is going on with this “impeachment.”

A kangaroo court is what it is.

I googled Vermont's governor just in case he would have to fill Leaky Leahy's seat, and meh, it probably wouldn't have "helped" us much.

The Governor of VT is a "Republican" on paper, but he's such a RINO a-hole that I doubt he would have the balls to unilaterally flip the seat to GOP hands (knowing his action would result in Republicans taking control of the chamber nationally, and "far right Republican rule" in the U.S. Senate being "blamed" on the "centrist" GOP Governor of dinky little Vermont). If he did appoint a "Republican", it would most likely be a worthless RINO like himself (some turd who goes around bashing Trump for anything and everything and pledges to find "bipartisan solutions" by co-sponsoring whatever the RATS want).

Most likely outcome is the worthless "Republican" governor would make some statement like "the voters of Vermont choose a Democrat for six years, I may not agree with the decision but I have no right to overturn a democratic election and force my will on the electorate, blah blah blah..." End result is he would have "consulted" with the Leahy family and the VT legislature for "advice" on who they think would "honor" Leahy's legacy, and appoint whatever marxist RAT they told him to.

I don’t think a Governor has ever appointed the other party to a Senate vacancy, except where required by law (or that old seniority trick they used to do where the outgoing Senator quit and his elected successor was appointed).

If Leahy dies, (as it please you Lord. It would please me). I think dude would appoint what passes for a VT Republican, who would probably vote like Susan Collins. And I hear tell there would be a snap election in 6 months, very unlikely we’d hold it.

Leahy only spent a few hours in the hospital, so he presumably is fine. But were he to die this year, we can’t be too sure that Gov. Phil Scott would appoint a Republican, not even a liberal one, given than, when Bernie Sanders was rumored to be a potential Secretary of Labor, Scott said that he’d probably appoint an Independent likely to caucus with the Democrats because Sanders is an Independent who caucuses with the Democrats.

But maybe Scott wants to become a U.S. senator, in which case he might wish to appoint a placeholder and call a quick election (six months is the most that it could take before holding the election; maybe Scott would rather hold ithe primary within 60 days and the general 45 days after that in order to give him the edge as a known quantity). If that’s the case, he’d probably appoint a liberal Republican who would allow the GOP to regain the majority but who votes with the Democrats often enough that Scott can tell Republican primary voters “see, I appointed a Vermobt Republican like me” and then tell general-election voters “see, having a Vermont Republican like me makes it a moderate Senate, with Vermont being the deciding vote.” If that’s what he wants, he’d likely appoint some lackey from his administration, like Joe Manchin did after Robert Byrd died and he wanted to run in the special election.

If Scott isn’t interested in being a senator for now but is interested in a Vermont Republican winning the special election, he likely would appoint former governor Jim Douglas, who despite being out of office for over a decade is only 69 years old. I would prefer Brian Dubie, who is less liberal than Douglas, but it wouldn’t be as likely tht he could win the snap special election, much less the regular election in 2022.

And if Douglas isn’t interested and the GOP really doesn’t have a prayer of winning the special election, then I’d prefer that Scott appoint state senator (and former state Auditor of Accounts) Randy Brock, who is the least liberal of the bunch (FWIW, he is considered a “social conservstive,” although presumably Vermont grades on a curve) and who, at age 77, should be given one last hurray. Before you say that a RINO like Scott would never appoint Brock, please note that (i) Scott appointed Brock to a vacant (formerly GOP-held) state senate district in 2017 and (ii) appointing the first ever black U.S. senator from Vermont might be attractive to Scott.

As for whether it makes difference whether that U.S. Senate seat from VT is held by a liberal Republican or a Leftist Democrat, you’d better believe that it would. Having 51 senators with an R next to their names would make Cocaine Mitch the Majority Leader and give the GOP a one-seat advantage in every committee, including the Judiciary Committee, where every Republican has proven to be a conservative when considering judicial nominees. So if we are lucky enough to have a Susan Collins type as a U.S. senator from VT (a state whose voters gave President Trump less than 31% in both 2016 and 2020), I would be ecstatic. I’m no fan of Lindsey Graham, but give me Graham over any Democrat as chairman of Judiciary.

Scott said that? Possibly he merely didn’t want to dissuade Sanders from taking the job. Lynch was prepared to appoint a RINO to replace Judd Gregg upon his nomination as Army Secretary.

Amen to your last paragraph.

Here’s where Phil Scott said that he’d appoint a Left-leaning Independent to replace Bernie: https://www.sevendaysvt.com/OffMessage/archives/2020/10/23/scott-says-he-would-replace-sanders-with-democrat-affiliated-independent It was prior to the election, so maybe Scott wanted to avoid giving his Democrat gubernatorial opponent an issue.

Scott got 68%

He needn’t worry about campaign issues

He got 68% in part because he assured Democrats that he would not appoint a Republican to replace Sanders. And perhaps he wants to run for the Senate someday, which is a harder row to hoe for a Republican in VT. I don’t think that Scott got to where he is by ignoring potential campaign issues, and he’s not going to start if and when he has to fill a U.S. Senate vacancy.

A liberal independent might be shrewed if it:

-Gets Bernie off the ballot in ‘24
-The new Senator is appointed with the understanding that he won’t run in 6 months.
-Scott could win in 6 months in the special. Gives him 3 1/2 years to earn re-election

Yes, likely less than 6 mos.
