A growing number of big-name advertisers, including Coke and Hyundai, are skipping the Super Bowl this year for fear of not striking the right tone amid America’s contentious political landscape.
Several companies have decided not to buy Super Bowl time, some for the first time in over a decade.
The reason? According to the New York Post, the talk from insiders is that members of multiple boardrooms are finally coming to realize that they’re going to infuriate half the country no matter what they do.
In recent years, advertisers were thrilled to push the Black Lives Matter and Antifa ideologies or to push transgenderism and the #MeToo movement. But this year, not so much.
“Every client conversation I’ve had these days is about who is going to be offended by this ad,” Rob Schwartz, chief executive officer of ad agency TBWA\Chiat\Day, told the Post. “There’s a lot of discussion about risk mitigation. What that tends to do is that it makes things very bland and not effective, or it forces you to look at universal topics like hope or humor.
“The country is so divided and split right down the middle that I don’t think that there’s a commercial that will appease both sides,” added Bill Oberlander, co-founder and executive creative of ad agency Oberlander.
The result has been that the Super Bowl will not sell out of its ad spots this year, the paper reported. And some of the companies opting out have been with the NFL’s biggest game for over a decade.
Coca-Cola is out this year, the report said. So is Hyundai, Olay, Avocados From Mexico, Little Caesars, and Ford Motors. Most of these companies have had a Super Bowl ad every year since 2010.

I said it before: companies that didn’t play politics were much better off.
Who the heck did the Budweiser Clydesdales ever offend?
Nope, this is really about not wanting to pour money down the woke rathole the NFL has become.
The ratings are gonna suck.
Who wants to spend the money.
well, well, well! Seems we are having an effect
Woke sports and audio books have worked out great for me. I’ve wasted literally years of my life listening to MLB and watching NFL. No more for me and surprisingly, I don’t miss it.
Ditto......

This website tells you how liberal, neutral or conservative a business happens to be. Dillards is neutral while Macys is liberal. I shop at Dillards.
They could all come up with ads that don’t have any political bent. My guess is it has more to do with the fact that the audience is going to be much smaller this year and the advertisers aren’t willing to pay $5.5m per spot.
There are still enough sane Constitutionalists around who are smart enough to reject that idea.
Any organization like COS that would have you believe there is not one thing to worry about with a Convention of States does not understand human nature or Conventions in general.
They have been blowing smoke since 2014 without one bit of proof other than statements of their self appointed experts in the field.
Yep-National Felons League. There were good reasons to not watch even before the kneeling etc.
I’m sure for many of us here, this forum thread is the longest time we’ve spent talking anything about NFL, and here all we’ve managed to do is NOT talk about actual football plays/games.
Any product hawked by Anti-American kneelers and pro-Communist Black Lives MatterTM is tainted and they know it.
Even rigging the season to get golden child Tom Brady into the Super Bowl isn't going to offset the damage the NFL has already done to itself.
If they don't kneel, I hope they're blasted for it. Let them be chained to that lie forever.
I had Tampa Bay v GB on while I was studying. One woke commercial or commentary after the other.
The game I actually wanted to watch was KC v Buffalo. I started thinking, ‘Is there a way I can enjoy the sport without having CBS get between me and the game?’
I figured out that I couldn’t and turned it off. I’m now finally out. I loved the NFL and College Football too.
I can’t enjoy it.
NHL too. NHL went woke.
The ONE THING I could enjoy yesterday ended up being PBR - Rodeo. They simply couldn’t make it woke. The advertisers behind Rodeo have told the station no. Period.
I went to the Champs in Dallas this year. It was like going to a retreat.
The other thing I’m getting sick of:
Every marriage on an ad is now mixed racially.
It’s virtue signaling on a massive scale.
I’m cancelling my cable. I know I’m not watching the SB this year.
I’ve finally had it.
And they find the half-breed looking kids to fit in.
I swear the racial mix is only in the last couple years.
We’ve been subjected to f a g couples for longer and more subtle so you might not notice.
One of the teams stayed in the locker room during the anthem. Pretty sure it was the Bills. Wasn't watching that closely, but the announcers said they stayed in as they'd done before this season.
They should show their product with riots in full bloom in the backdrop.
And say something about damn honkies didn’t build this..but we can definitely destroy.
Now shut up and keep wearing your masks!
Gee, ya think geniuses?
I’ve got a crazy idea. How about you focus on things like running your business, increasing the bottom line, maximizing shareholder value, etc? I know, I know, that’s just crazy talk.
I haven’t watched the NFL or any pro sports in about 15 years.
I haven't been offended by ads that air during NFL games for more than three years now.
