Incoming Transportation Secretary wants to implement a mileage tax

Incoming Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has suggested taxing Americans for the number of miles they drive, a policy he endorsed as a Democratic presidential candidate.

The Biden Administration is actively searching for ways to fund its ambitious $1 trillion infrastructure plan.

Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Ind., acknowledged "privacy concerns" related to implementing a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) system but said it should be considered as a potential replacement for the gas tax.

A) It’s a cash grab.

B) It’s an attempt to slow the depopulation of urban areas by making suburban and rural areas less attractive.

It’s a two-fer for Deep State.

It's a tax on rural people. Imagine if they targeted a tax to ghetto dwellers--Dats raciss!

Think of the damage that would do to small businesses across the spectrum.

You must be new to this planet.

You see, we've had this thing we call a pandemic here and......

There is no way a mileage tax will be a replacement for gas taxes.

It will be IN ADDITION TO, the gas taxes we already pay.

And look for a gas tax increase no matter what. Pete B.
lamented that the federal gas tax hasn’t gone up since 1993,and is not indexed to inflation. The implication being that he is eager for a big tax increase.

So how will.they know how many miles we drive in order to bill us and collect?

1. We need to report to DMV annually and have them check our odometer.

2. Turn every road into a toll road, with transponders and cameras recording our movements, and charging a credit card or bank account, similar to what is done on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and other toll roads.

What kills me is that politicians never have to be under most of the laws they pass.
For example, Medicare for all except people on Capital Hill.
It’s a joke....

As I said before, the lever of power the Dems always reach for first is TAXES.
First order of business.
Guaranteed.

#20: "Big ambitions, small Peter."

Yeah, in any event, Little Peter prefers to play "catcher".

Q: What toast did Little Peter offer at the inaugural "ball"?

A: Bottoms up!

I’ve been thinking of a bunch of unconventional things that could be done to take down the ruling establishment....

As a Conservative, I’m prepared to adopt some really different ideas to take them down internally...

One idea is a labor strike, if this mileage tax looks like it might get passed, the Truckers should go on a 7-day strike just to prove their point......

I’ve also entertained the idea of supporting labor unions at places like Amazon, etc...I think creating labor turmoil might get them to curb the authoritarianism just a little bit...

Within a state, driving is something is regulated by that state. As such, it seems like this would require cooperation from the states. I don’t see red states agreeing to this.

I thought they wanted another stimulus for Americans. It sounds like they want to make their financial situation even more tenuous.

Very much aware of the dempanic. That’s why I don’t want to hurt the small businesses any more. How much damage would it do to shut down Washington?

When you are not allowed to purchase gasoline, they can still tax your little electric car at a high rate.

CORRECT.
