Report: White House Counsel Pat Cipollone Blocking Assange Pardon
Breitbart ^ | 19 January 2021 | ALLUM BOKHARI

Posted on 01/19/2021 5:14:34 PM PST by Magnatron

A last-ditch effort to persuade President Donald Trump to issue a pre-emptive pardon to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is reportedly being blocked by White House counsel Pat Cipollone, according to reports.

A high-level source in the Trump administration reported to Breitbart News that while the President is sympathetic to pardoning Assange, Cipollone is not — and the continued opposition of the White House counsel is making a pardon increasingly unlikely.

Trump could still overrule Cipollone if he wished – he has the legal authority to do so – but it appears that the President continues to heed the latter’s advice.

In a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed, the establishment newspaper praised Cipollone for reining in President Trump in the closing days of his administration, “when the easier route would be to resign to outside applause.”

Condemning President Trump’s recent words and behavior, the Journal praised officials like Cipollone for putting the brakes on the President.

“Every official has to search his conscience amid Mr. Trump’s actions, and outside moral judgment is easy and often wrong. Many good people are trying to prevent more bad decisions,” said the Journal.

Outside of the administration, high-profile conservatives and Republicans have urged President Trump to pardon Julian Assange.

These voices include Tucker Carlson, who once again urged the President to trust his instincts in a segment that aired yesterday.

Assange’s primary crime, said Carlson, was “humiliating the powerful.”

Is Laura now on the hate list? It’s hard to keep up with all the people we need to loathe because they didn’t agree with us 100%.

Actually according to Tucker Carlson, this is NOT the reason why Assange wont be pardoned, he wont be pardoned because Mitch McConnell has told Trump that if he pardons Azsange, he will be convicted in the Senate, if he doesn’t do it, they will leave him alone..that is what an evil bastard Mitch McConnell is, and if true, isn’t that a quid pro quo, isnt that what got Trump impeached the first time

Tucker just reported that Mitch McConnell threatened Trump with the possibility of impeachment if he pardoned them.

What’s the chance of a Recall Petition of McConnell?

Isnt that the true definition of a quid pro quo..Id love to see McConnell impeached over this..that is a threat against the President..either do what I say or we will convict you..and whose to say if Trump doesn’t pardon assange that McConnell still will go ahead with impeachment

McConnell can publicly come out for impeachment and bring along 17 for conviction and screw him back.

He can F with trump in a lot of ways.

“Rumor is, Mitch told Trump if he grant’s a pardon, he’s going to be Impeached.”

He has already been impeached twice. I assume you mean convicted. I wonder how that would stand up with the miserable recent appointments to the supreme court? I would like to know.

Trump should leave the country for a while for his and his family’s safety.

I haven't heard anything. Maybe someone is starting a guilt by association meme.

In which case I shared a joke or two with P. J. O'Rourke and he's definitely not a Trump fan so:

OFF WITH MY HEAD!

Trump has been threatened by McConnell that conviction would be more likely if he pardons Assange?

Why should a conviction matter? The trial’s going to go on after he’s left.

I’m not even sure that he would be forbidden from running again if he were convicted.

Tucker Carlson just said that word has been sent from some Rino senators that if Trump pardons Assange, they are more likely to vote to convict him in the impeachment trial.

They were never allowed to act. Wood still has a case awaiting to be heard in the Supreme court. It will probably be ruled mute, thanks to those fine justices who are looking out for the constitution of the US /s
