I don’t think he’s defending anyone. He is looking at the truth of the numbers of voters. He’s gaslighting on the “5,000 “rioters”

There were maybe a couple of dozen hard-core violent people, and those all turned out to be atifa.

The actual number of rioters was far less than 5000. And it took Maher of all people to point this out.
There wasn't a riot, not even close.
Remember when he condemned DC rioters starting fires in buildings and cars during trumps inauguration?

Maher is a broken clock: he’s right twice a day.
For a liberal, he’s not that bad on the second amendment. He’s had Colion Noir on his show (and treated him decently). Maher supports a lot of liberal nonsense and he’s a big fan of Elizabeth Warren and others on the kooky left, but he doesn’t go to AOC extremes and at his age he’s at least developed a certain level of practicality to him. For example, he railed against liberal politicians for getting so hung up on which bathroom people used that they completely forgot to do anything about people having jobs.
I watch his show. It gets annoying at times, but I appreciate the discussion that happens and the guests he has on (he just had Kellyanne Conway on).
Credit where due, Maher is willing to be a half right stopped clock once in a while.
IF he had truly defended Trump supporters he would have said “let us not confuse a couple of violent antifa and blm domestic terrorists who went to the capito. After planning to make Trump supporters look bad, with 74 million plus Trump voters”
No. He’s still scum.
But that’s what makes it so weird.
There were a few hundred rioters...and the damage caused was less than $10,000. AND the riot lasted less than two hours.
Compare that to liberals burning and looting cities for months at an estimated cost of close to two billion dollars damage... Scores of people murdered, cops killed, and citizens terrified.
The liberal butt boys and their bimbo sisters didn’t cover those riots the same way because their bias, hatred and handlers wouldn’t let them.
The good thing about Maher is he doesn’t have a handler...
Maher is having a stopped-clock moment.
While he got some of it right, there weren’t 5,000 rioters,
and that still contributes to the big lie the government is
trying to spread.
I will say, in the last day or so, I have seen some light
shed on the fact that there were upwards of six different
ANTIFA groups participating in the Capital incursion.
It’s beginning to lead out.
Bill Maher regularly calls “fly-over Americans” and Trump supporters every name in the book as part of his fake-news/commodity shtick.
