The CDC website links to studies showing masks catch virus particles. What happens to these particles after that? Is it possible they continue to travel?
Is there any evidence that masks reduce the transmission of the virus?
Checking my daily quota of talking out of my a**, I can still make a few more uninformed remarks ;). Let's try to discuss this.
OK, trying to think first, post second. Give me a few minutes. OK a few more minutes. The goal is to reduce the viral load. The question is, if and to what extent masks people use actually achieve this goal.
Can you provide technical sources out there that describe this and practical applications (maybe something not the Phd at 3M level)? If I need to get a dictionary to understand the big words, that's fine. Once the math and science runs into application, problems arise. Humans are really good at building a better idiots. Using a mask while leaving your nose exposed is defeating the purpose.

Agreed. In my neighborhood I see plenty of dimoKKKRATS not wearing masks.
Nope..not an engineer or physicist and barely understand the concepts let alone all the equations I Have seen.
I watched Big Bang Theory off and on over the years. Sheldon, the physicist had disdain for his buddy that was an engineer...but these scientific concepts meld together when it comes to masks
My approach is simple for a simple person. Because I am high risk...I wear a face shield visor hat and a mask. Usually not n95 unless going to a Drs office, etc.
I accept that I will probably inhale some of the virus due to the nature of the PPE (gaps) and my own inept handling of the equipment. I have a procedure I follow but I am sure there is cross contamination.
I theorize that part of the issue (and it may be a small part) of why you see such a wide range of reactions by people is because of their viral load.
I also take various precautions when I get home to also lessen the viral load of whatever I got shot up with while out.
Some of the things I do aren’t practical for every day use and would be hard for people to follow.
For example, I am not sure I would want to put PVP Iodine up my nose every day but it’s okay for the few times I go out. This is recommended by some ENT drs and Dentists so I am willing to give it a try
There is just no way no matter what you do that you can fully protect yourself.
If people don’t want to wear a mask they should at least have an understanding of the science when making the decision.
Btw, one article by the infection disease/engineer person indicated said person was not wearing an n95 for daily use. This is back in June when they were hard to come by. She was wearing a lesser mask. Don’t know what she is doing now. She does post on twitter but I dont follow her.
Some populations and occupations are at higher risk. Higher risk = do something now to get that extra 1-2% safety margin.

Here is where I may have the mental regret part of it.
I am choosing not to get the vaccine at this time
I am going to get the MMR II in case there is cross reactivity.
I need the shingles shot so was searching tonight to see if there was any potential cross reactivity. They are studying it. There were some interesting older articles about the shot and CD8 and CD4 t cells (which are also mentioned in with COVID) but it was so far and away above my head that even the conclusion (which is where I usually start)..didn’t help.
So if I end up in the hospital with this blasted disease I will most assuredly be hacked off I didnt get the vaccine..but still going to take that risk for now.
People have to assess their risk in things and make a decision based on their own parameters.
After all, I drink Diet Coke and that is probably what will kill me.

Anyone have any ideas about how to stop deaths from the disease increasing 45 percent every two weeks, as was reported today?
The Bidet super-vaccine is so amazing that not only will it make you immune to the current strain of Covid, but will also make you immune to any mutations of Covid currently in place.
Better yet, it will make you immune to all future mutations.
