Famed Boston Red Sox pitcher-turned-conservative commentator Curt Schilling said Tuesday that American International Group (AIG) had cancelled his insurance plan due to his "social media profile."
"We will be just fine, but wanted to let Americans know that @AIGinsurance canceled our insurance due to my 'Social Media profile,'" Schilling said on Twitter.
Schilling shared a screenshot purportedly showing an AIG employee telling him that while they appreciate that he's been a "long time AIG client since 2004" "it was a management decision that was made collectively between underwriting and marketing teams that could not be overturned."

I do NOTHING on the interwebs under my real name.
Figured that out a long time ago.
There is a first amendment to the constitution.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
It’s clear as a bell; what need was there for a politician to make some law protecting free speech?
What’s happening is that we haven’t INSISTED on keeping it yet.
It appeared Curt would be elected to the HOF this month, Don’t be surprised he is denied because of his patriotism.
Face it... Get your affairs in order and wait for your number to be called to head for a re-education camp.
Is this not also Social Media?
Given my work, I’m tied to my work computer a lot. I’m not complaining, because it’s my company’s hardware and I could certainly switch over when I want to read or post anything. A certain degree of personal use, casual use, is permitted.
I noticed about two weeks ago, Parler was blocked when I went to see the latest news on that site. This was before the 6th. Ok then - Their equipment, their rules. I haven’t tried since (and it’s gone now anyway)
It’s just a matter of time before this site is also blocked. Time to carry two laptops so I can read over lunch.
I do my political opinionating on FR and Gab.
Everyone’s got an excuse to stay on Facebook. Hell, I’m hesitant to cancel my Prime membership with Amazon. What will it take to realize that these social media platforms are not doing you any favors? What level of pain do we, as a society, have to feel before we cut the cancer from our lives?
Many years ago I had AIG car insurance. Then, for a year or so, I did not have a car so I cancelled the insurance. When I got another car and attempted to reinstate my car insurance, AIG placed me in the high risk pool, even though I never had an accident! I dropped them like a hot potato. Bunch of bums.
It is illegal.
No discrimination based on race, religion or creed.
No one wants the hassle of filing a suit. But clearly until that’s done this crap will continue.
The First Amendment does not protect speech in private settings.
The Netflix TV show telegraphed this in their series Black Mirror. Very first episode if I remember correctly.
If you listen to them, the Left ALWAYS tells you what they really have planned. They can’t help themselves.
You know, I have only one social media connection, only one. I am not on Twitter or Instagram. I use NO apps. Hell, I don’t even use my phone for anything except for emergency calls and when I am in the car on vacation for directions. So, don’t be all judgemental about me keeping a connection with my family.
Wasn’t directing my ire or judgement at you, exactly, but your response does give me pause. I’m as anti-social media as they come and preach the risks to anyone who’ll listen. I hear excuses all the time, because I believe people are afraid to leave it behind; but everyone I know who’s cut the social media cord reported increased happiness and contentment. Social media is a cancer.
It’s the new “redlining” and conservatives are the new N-words.
I was referring to the overreaching oligarchs of Big Tech.
I don't think JimRob is going to give your name and address to people who would fire you or cut you adrift for posting here.
Yep. And it’s amazing how many people —even those on the Left now — will say it’s a private company and can do what it wants.
Well, I imagine FR is on the list, probably pretty high up, too.
It’s not just Facebook, or Amazon. It’s everything. How many folks just can’t give up Fox News, or major sports, or Hollywood (how many FReepers chimed in to say they’d watched that WW84 nonsense on opening weekend?). None of those are necessary, but folks just can’t “walk away.”
Heck, I even have friends or family members who tell me they want to go Paleo or Keto, after seeing my results (nearly 55, healthy weight and NO health issues), but when I tell them what they have to give up they say, “I can’t do that.” They tell me they can’t live without bread, or pasta, or whatever. Really, so you CAN live with being overweight, diabetic and/or a myriad of other health issues? And you know what some say to me? “That’s why I take medication — to control those things, so yes, I can live with them.”
Boycotts do work, if people will stick with ‘em — but they can’t.
