Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., said he witnessed the moment a police officer shot a woman inside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday and insisted the officer had no other choice.
A pro-Trump mob of rioters rammed their way into the Capitol Wednesday as Congress held a joint session to certify the election results, sending lawmakers into hiding.
Video shows a group attempting to force itself into the House chamber, where lawmakers were present. As protesters were breaking glass on the doors that kept them out to force their way through, a law enforcement officer fired a shot. One woman, Ashli Babbitt, was struck by a bullet and later died.
"When they broke the glass in the back, the [police] lieutenant that was there, him and I already had multiple conversations prior to this, and he didn't have a choice at that time," Mullin told ABC News' George Stephanapoulos on "Good Morning America" Thursday.
"The mob was going to come through the door, there was a lot of members and staff that were in danger at the time. And when he [drew] his weapon, that's a decision that's very hard for anyone to make, and, once you draw your weapon like that, you have to defend yourself with deadly force."
Mullin said police "showed a lot of restraint" and "did the best they could."

Yes, you’re wrong. She was shot and fell back almost at the feet of one officer who then immediately pointed his rifle at the door because the instantaneous reaction was that there was an “active shooter.”

I am currently a customer of Mullin’s plumbing company with a service plan for my septic system. After reading this thread & checking the linked videos of this shooting, I believe I will end my business relationship with his company. I am not in his Congressional District so I can’t withdraw my vote.

We do what we can.
This was not your home. This was a public building during a protest. In this case, there was a police presence who could have simply grabbed her and pulled her to the ground -- as has been done in any number of other protests around the country.
I’m not saying he should have done it. I’m saying that as a human being - not a machine - it is reasonable to do what he did.
He was supposedly a trained officer of the law. That makes him somewhat of a machine who is trained to react appropriately in tense situations. It is absolutely NOT reasonable what he did.
Look closely at this video. At the time the girl was shot, there were no LEO's at the top of the stairs. It wasn't until she hit the floor then a few seconds later did we then see the first of the officers attempting to reach the top of the stairs.......
Yes. I get all that. There is still so much that we don’t know about the shooter so we’ll see. I’m basing my opinion on what I saw in the videos and shared that opinion here. I still stand by it, but new information could change that opinion.
Fact is, in such a unique event it is difficult to successfully prosecute someone that does what this guy did. And I have mixed emotions about whether what he did was morally right. Or legally, frankly. But I think the videos give enough evidence to prevent a successful prosecution for anything other than, maybe, involuntary manslaughter.
But that is my opinion with the facts we currently know.
What an asswipe. It violated every law and court ruling on use of force.
She was unarmed and presented no immediate threat to anyone.
The swat officers right behind her saw no deadly threat.
Now to the officer. He went immediately to deadly force. No verbal warning, no pepper spray, no taser, no baton, no attempt to make an arrest...nothing. And last but not least, no bodycam or recording device.
Believe it or not, Federal officers must operate under the same rules as every other officer in America. Any city officer would be facing arrest on a murder charge.
What happened to “back the blue?”
Also, cops don’t face murder charges during riots.

I didn’t see a single police guy grab a radio and call for medical help, but yet they were all yelling at everyone to back up (away from the victim) AND the Chief of Cap Police said officers immediately rendered aid. . .like HECK they did.
And news reporting a murder investigation has started for the police guy, but NO murder investigation for the murdered victim by the Cap police.
An “Investigation” supposedly started for the murder of the woman, but NO STATEMENT about it being a murder investigation.
