The new strain has been identified in Colorado, California….and China.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAYdlpbVUNA In December, I noted that there were questions about the potential severity of the disease caused by new coronavirus mutations that were detected in the United Kingdom.
Now it is being reported that doctors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say there is no evidence that the newly detected strains cause a more severe version of the disease or a higher risk of death.
“It is important to know that at this time there is no evidence that either of these variants cause more severe disease or increases the risk of death,” Dr. Henry Walke, the incident manager for the CDC’s coronavirus response team, said Wednesday.
Walke described the known background details of each new variant.
“The first variant was identified originally in the U.K. and has likely been circulating there since September of 2020, especially in London and Southeast England. The second variant was first identified in South Africa and has been circulating there since October of 2020. This second variant developed independently of the first variant,” he said.
…Walke suggested that virus mutations are a normal part of disease circulation, “We expect to see new variants emerge over time. Many mutations lead to variants that don’t change how the virus infects people. Sometimes, however, variants emerge that can spread more rapidly, like these.”
This information is not widely published in our press. The news is focusing on the “mutation coountdown” of U.S. locations where the variants are being detected.
The first American case of the new strain was detected in a young man in the Colorado National Guard.

Is there any evidence that these “new” variants haven’t existed all along?
Have to ask Fauci. He’s the one who created them.
The H1N1 (Swine Flu) of 2009 mutated/degraded and the CDC says H1N1 has been part of the seasonal flu since.
How do they all of the sudden know of New variants? What new test identifies it? How are they testing/identifying it?
And Fauci also said we didn’t need masks and otherspeculative and false statements.
He will never tell the truth and I’m afraid that Beijing has murdered all the local evidence.
Yes, the new variant spreads so rapidly and more efficiently than the previous one that the new variant replaces the old one quickly. The variant currently dominating circulation is not the original. A mutation in March enabled more efficient cell entry and by April the new mutation had supplanted the old variant across the globe.
This new variant will likewise supplant the current one quickly. When a new variant appears, if it’s more effective at infecting hosts, it becomes pretty much the only one you see.
Spot checking positive samples.
"What new test identifies it? How are they testing/identifying it?"
Genetic sequencing and comparing it to the dominant variant.
SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza virus are as closely related as human beings and snails. Influenza virus containes negative-sense single stranded RNA 10,000 - 14,600 bases long. SARS-CoV-2 is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus containing 29,903 nucleotide bases.
The only way they could be any different from one another is if one were a hamster.
You didn’t really answer my question. How are all those things verified?
Thanks for the response. I hadn’t seen that post before my last reply.
I still wonder about the statement that the new variants are spreading fast. Where are the numbers on that being published?
Testing in the lab demonstrates that the new variants are more efficient at spreading and spot checks show them popping up more and more frequently, suggesting they’re edging out the old variant. Taken together, those two bits of information fit in with the existing understanding for how mutations for infectious diseases work: if it enables you to infect more hosts, the mutation becomes dominant. If it makes you less effective at spreading, it tends to die out due to competition.
But you haven’t told me where you got that information.
Gotta disagree.
"We don't need masks" was the true statement.
His later "mask up and shut up and do what you're told" is the B.S.

Always go to the published research. The media always screws up the story, sometimes maliciously. The politicians always screw up the story, most often maliciously.
Thank you, I appreciate the links.
I try to find sources like that but, as a layman, I find it difficult to do with all the “popular” media trash that comes up in a search.
Refining search terms to produce good results is an art that is easier to acquit when one is already knowledgeable on the subject.
Happy to help! Please keep a skeptical mind, particularly when reading anything that isn’t from a direct authoritative source. There’s a lot of misinformation floating around, both from agenda-driven politicians as well as agenda-driven conspiracy theorists and others who would happily feed false information in order to fool people into siding with their worldview.
Critically evaluate the sources of your information. If they told you the pandemic was over in May or that it never existed in the first place, that’s a bad source. If they told you everyone was going to die and it was the end of modern civilization; also a bad source. Truth is enduring. When you find a source that gives you clear, consistent, reliable information proven to be true over time, stick with that source. When you’re fed sensational BS or stuff that is demonstrated not to be true over time, stop trusting that source.
