Why did you scrutinize California counties and then compare them to entire states?
Given their state government, don’t you think there might be some shenanigans with the numbers California reports?
Covid-19 had been politicized. I don’t take much about it at face value any more.
But I did find this: We could be vastly overestimating the death rate for COVID-19
The problem I have with the CDC reporting is they change their mind all of the time. Wear masks. Don't wear masks. High death rates. Nevermind, only 6% of reported Covid-19 deaths are really Covid-19 deaths.
If their 6% number is accurate, then the reported 250,000 Covid deaths so far would only amount to 15,000 actual deaths from Covid.
And therein lies the problem. It's like trying to argue the details of CO2 emissions with global warming/climate change advocates. The numbers are all over the board. A lot of them are based on computer models, as are the Covid numbers. So what's accurate and what's not?
The computer models initially estimated something like 2-2.5 million deaths in the US from Covid. Faulty Fauci gave this number to the president as an estimate of the number of Covid deaths to expect.
Whether the number of Coivd deaths is 2.5 million or 250,000 or 300,000 or 400,000 or only 15,000, the point is that it is very hard to get an accurate number of anything in this pandemic once it was weaponized and politicized by people with agendas other than the health and wellbeing of the population.
I think I'm done here. You could very well be correct but so could I. It's like trying to hit a moving target.
Thanks for the discussion. Happy New Year.
41 and he drops dead from Covid despite being otherwise healthy with no pre-existing conditions? Creepy.
80% of Covid deaths have been 65+.
So 20% have been 65-.
Excellent points. It amazes me how many FReepers have their heads in the sand and pretend that COVID-19 is not real, or they think that the statistics are exaggerated by liberal media. The virus is here. It will stay. We have to learn to live with it. At the same time, we need not to overreact to it, which is what we’ve been doing the whole time as you’ve pointed out.
I am bothered by the deaths of blacks, hispanics and Republicans. There is no reason for it. I am also bothered by the overreporting of other deaths as COVID in many locations.
What bothers me the most is the spread in December 2019 without much death in nursing homes, etc. I believe that nursing homes have been targeted and not just by Cuomo's insane policies. Actually targeted.
Apparently he did have the virus, but today’s news says he died of a heart attack while undergoing surgery.
Congressman-elect Luke Letlow suffered a heart attack following operation

I agree.
I think some of our folks are off base dismissing the COVID
problem at this point too.
Things really are pretty bad in certain places in the nation.
The number of people who say COVID-19 is “not real” or that it is a “fraud” are being lumped in with people who say the Federal, State, and local legislative reactions are wrong or fraudulent, and all of these people are being characterized generally in a lowest common denominator form as “crackpots” and anti-science.
I believe this is the common practice of the Left, which routinely engages in the politics of personal destruction, and I abhor it because they are doing is specifically and purposefully to silence discussion of relevant issues.
I do also have serious misgivings about the testing of patients, and the COVID-19 absolute death rates as well as the percentages (with respect to how COVID deaths are categorized, and the percentages based on tests that I have significant doubts about the accuracy, both in false positive and false negative rates.)
But I do think that we know enough about this pathogen to have enough information to have a rational discussion about our federal, state, and local approach to this, which I don’t believe has taken place.
I do appreciate that you want to apply statistics to this, but I cannot comment on this based on statistics you provided.
There are so many assumptions (such as characterizing Fresno as “Nunes territory” which implies the state, local and federal COVID related approaches, restrictions, and mandates are all Republican somehow Republican.
FYI, Fresno county has a wide majority of Democrat voters, and an equally wide majority of elected Democrat politicians at all levels, Federal, State, and local. That county also went for Barack Obama twice and Joe Biden (if the results can even be believed)
I do also take issue with your inflammatory assertion without supportive data “It is not just that we Republicans are killing our fellow Americans 2x to 5x higher rate than Liberals” that you present as fact. I would be surprised if you somehow managed to obtain information on individual dying of COVID and were able to correlate that to the deceased person’s political affiliation.
I don’t think the inflammatory assertion that we a “killing our fellow Americans” is helpful to this discussion.
As I said, I can appreciate that you want to bring statistical data to bear on the subject, but having worked with data and its various forms of presentation for decades, there are statistics and damned statistics. And making an unsupported assertion as fundamental as a county is “Republican” because they have 30% of all offices at the Federal, state, and local levels populated by Republicans is not sound.
I read FR a lot and have yet to see someone denying covid is real!
They object to the response and think it’s basically a flu replacement...but no one is saying it’s imaginary.
Thank you, GraceG...having familiarity with the People’s Republic of Massachusetts and being a Freeper, I would expect you to relate to those points...:)
Hope all is well-have a great New Year...:)
Neither the flu nor covid has “killed an entire nursing home.”
The data I have seen for worst flu year was 80,000 over a 3 or 4 month period in 2018 (more like 30,000 most years), which would be around 1,000 per day for worst flu.
Not “an entire” home died, but certainly 30-40% in a fair number. Data on specific nursing homes are available on several sites.
No.
Corona virus common colds are prevalent in Asia and on the West coast of the USA.
My guess - a large percentage of the people here in Seattle and in the Bay Area have at least some level of immunity to COVID-19 - thus, lower death rates.
In addition, Seattle and the Bay area have conspicuously lower numbers of Blacks and Hispanics, who have higher infection rates and death rates than whites and Asians.
When I look at your state data, I instantly see three things.
Alabama and Louisiana have exceptionally high numbers of Blacks - more than 30% of residents in both states.
The deaths in Iowa and North Dakota are heavily concentrated in the meat packing industry, which is 100% Hispanic.
Blacks and Hispanics are also more likely to work and live in high density situations, which increases transmission of COVID-19.
The high death rate in Montana? I do not know.
However, Montana has a Democrat Governor, a Democrat Lieutenant Governor, and a Democrat Senator (as I write this).
Bottom Line...
Healthy people under age 60 have the same or less risk from COVID as they have from influenza.
Protect the aged and the infirm.
Everyone else, go back to your normal life.
#BREAKING - Actress Dawn Wells, best known as “Mary Ann” on TV’s “Gilligan’s Island,” has died at the age of 82. It was a result of complications due to COVID-19.
She was a positive spirit in the show biz world.

You really must be an ostrich with your head in the sand if you think that therapies hold it check without except. My co-worker’s brother had excellent treatment and died of respiratory failure the day after Thanksgiving and 4 days after being diagnosed. 44 and a champion racquetball player.
