I have to ask, “What’s the point of having police and a judiciary?” when I read about this case from Chicago, a city world-renowned for the level of lethal criminality its residents endure

An accused serial burglar and thief has been sentenced to probation for a burglary in Lincoln Park last year — even though he was already on probation for two burglaries at the time of the alleged break-in.

Jonathan Hernandez, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of theft in exchange for an 18-month probation sentence in the latest case, according to court records. He has been arrested seventeen times in Chicago since March 2014

Hernandez was sentenced to probation for committing burglary while out on probation for committing burglary.

If probation didn’t dissuade him from further burglary, how could any judge assume that more probation would keep him from committing future crimes?

It makes no sense.

In current leftist philosophy, stealing from people is an honorable career. A good thief does not get caught, consuming everyone's time to put on the show for the rubes, what with police, court, and all.

Reminds me of a coworker years ago who couldn't stay straight. Really a likeable guy and a hard worker, until he had some money in his pocket. Booze and cocaine, mostly.

It was a running joke - day after payday he wouldn't show up, we all knew he was passed out somewhere, probably in jail.

The last time I saw him was at work, he had just been released after another DUI bust. I was surprised they let him out this time. Caught driving impaired with no license (suspended), no insurance, failed sobriety test, etc. The cops kept him overnight then let him out the next morning, as usual. The boss fired him this time, said he was killing himself and he didn't want to see it.

He's dead now, of course - liver failure. And thank God he never killed anyone that I know of.

Well, yes and no. No one is old enough to remember the last time there was a free and fair election in Chicago. The Dem machine rigs every election:

• City & county workers are expected to do GOTV work while on the clock
• Grant programs deliver money to "community organizations" whose board membership has 100% overlap with local Dem ward committees
• Grant programs give money to black preachers for "unemployment training." This is used to hire spouses, etc., and held in reserve for "walking around" money at election time
• Chicago uses the same ballot scanning system as Detroit, which allows fake ballots from bloated, inaccurate voter rolls to be entered freely into the system.
• The local press functions largely as a propaganda organ for the Dem party

My opinion is that only armed intervention by the Feds filing a massive RICO lawsuit against Chicago, Cook County and the state of Illinois could clean this up.
