William Barr is going out of office tomorrow as attorney general in a blaze of disgrace, not glory. Answering a reporter’s question yesterday, he told the world that he sees no need for a special counsel for the Hunter Biden investigation. His position is completely inconsistent with his logic in appointing John Durham as special counsel and raises very distasteful questions about what is really going on.
So, he thinks the investigation is “being handled responsibly and professionally,” so “[t]o this point I have not seen a reason to appoint a special counsel and I have no plan to do so before I leave.”
But in announcing Durham’s appointment, Barr said appointing him as special counsel would “provide Durham and his team some assurance that they’d be able to complete their work regardless of the outcome of the election.”
There is far more reason to fear that an investigation of Hunter Biden by the US Attorney for Delaware would be squelched by a President Biden than there was reason to fear that an investigation of the Russia Hoax by the US Attorney for Connecticut John Durham would have been. First of all, there is already much evidence on the public record that Joe Biden himself is tied into the Hunter Biden schemes, as “the big guy” who gets a cut of the bribes disguised as investments, gifts, and director’s fees. An investigation of Hunter is an investigation of Joe.
Rhetoric from Jen Psaki and others on the Biden team that Biden would not interfere in the investigation is meaningless. As a friend of mine observed:
If Biden's AG follows the normal practice of replacing all the US attorneys, Biden does not need to interfere in the activities of the Justice Department for the new AG and the replacement US attorneys

So, why would Barr not support a special counsel now, when he appointed Durham in October and announced the appointment after the election? If carrying the investigation through a new presidency was a concern for Durham, why isn’t it for the Hunter scandals?
Giving Barr the benefit of the doubt, he may fear that a Special Counsel ties up an administration, and wants to avoid that for Biden, assuming he is inaugurated. The Russia hoax focusses on the Obama administration (of which Biden a member), so Biden will still be hobbled. But his potential liability is far greater for Hunter than it is for Russiagate. After all, we are talking about massive potential bribes, like the $5 million non-recourse loan from China to a Biden-controlled business entity and the billion-dollar-plus investment fund placed in Hunter’s hands, on which yearly fees would amount to millions of dollars, even if invested in Treasury notes.
My deepest fear is that the root of Barr’s position may be that pulling on the thread of Chinese bribes to officials – direct or indirect via family members – may unravel the entire cloth of elective and appointive officialdom in the federal government, delegitimizing the whole enterprise.
He thinks he’s going out on top, being “fair”. Once again the GOP gets played.
Maybe he meant that the DOJ’s regular staff can handle the prosecution, since there is plenty of evidence, and no ‘special’ one is needed to ‘investigate’ to dig up evidence that is plainly in view for all to see......literally.....................
A shame no one is allowed to investigate the finances of these guys, as the do regular Americans. Chief Justice Roberts has gotta be on the take.

DC doesn’t like to pull threads. Too many things can unravel.
Its not just the Chinese connections that can be exposed. Our government is massively corrupt and looking under rocks can expose lots of other things that cause those in power to have to fabricate their way out of it.
Barr is a blind rat.
I’m not usually against Barr even on his reluctance to deal with the election.
But this about Biden is 100% suspect.
Of course Biden isn’t going to allow a real investigation of himself and his entire family.
AND Biden keeps lying about the facts and declaring that Hunter is innocent.
A shame no one is allowed to investigate the finances of these guys, as the do regular Americans.

The elites in this country are above accountability. That is the fundamental problem. They protect THEIR system like ants protecting the nest.
On the way out the door once again all Barr had to do was keep his mouth shut. As it is now, all he has done is further damage his once good reputation.
I think it’s entirely possible that the Chinese got to him too which, as the author implies, raises the specter that this long running BRIBERY and INTIMIDATION war on the US by China is far larger than the feds are willing to acknowledge publicly.
How about we prosecute that fat bastard for failing to do what he swore an oath to do
It seems that the democrat party has studied the 1930’s Mafia very well...
Bill Barr, your Breitbart vehicle awaits you.
Nah, nobody got to anyone. Barr is just corrupt, which is plenty bad enough.
The decision is completely consistent.
These decisions are outcome-oriented application of discretion.
In the Durham / Russian Collusion Hoax investigation, the outcome is “no finding of wrongdoing.” Therefore, there is no harm in appointing a prosecutor. Biden could let it run (assuming for sake of argument Congress improvidently seats him, as it improvidently seated Obama) with no risk to the faux integrity of the government.
In the Biden investigation, the outcome has to be the same, no finding of wrongdoing. But in this case, appointment of a Special Counsel carries baggage to Biden, so it can’t be allowed to exist.
These mysteries are easy to solve. The government is crooked throughout, and is protecting its faux reputation as being “of the people, by the people, for the people.”
Your comments in post 2 are right on target. The final paragraph is dead center.
I have come to the opinion that this entire 5 year long Zapruder film in slow motion has been “... delegitimizing the whole enterprise.”
I no longer believe our elected government is legitimate. Kinda ruins my day to say that.
It is not important for the Swamp/MSM complex that you think it is legitimatize. It is only important for them to think it is legitimate.
That's exactly it - and it's also why Mitch and the Ashamed Boys in the Senate want us to shut up and move on. There is no way to attack the election fraud without triggering Mutual Assured Destruction - which is why the Democrats were so brazen in carrying it out.
