“Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace said on this week’s broadcast of his program that the “fuss” over Jill Biden’s title of “doctor” had not been applied to “Dr. Henry Kissinger, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King.”

Wallace said, “There has been some criticism recently from conservatives, including some conservatives on Fox News about the fact that First Lady-to-be Jill Biden goes by the title doctor. I wonder what is the Biden’s reaction to that, especially given the fact that so many people over the years — I think of Dr. Henry Kissinger, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King have gone by the title doctor, even though they’re not medical doctors and nobody seems to have made a fuss about that.”

It was always Reverend Martin Luther King as far as I remember. At any rate, I think the issue here is the quality of the “dissertation”, or lack thereof combined with the in your face, “That’s DOCTOR to YOU” attitude. This one is shaping up to be the Streisand Effect on steroids. Biden arrogance and hubris on display and it’s not a good look

We have a number of pastors around here who use the title “Doctor”. They have a PhD In Theology. It seems popular with specific Protestant denominations. It is used predominantly by black pastors but, I have met a few white pastors who use it as well. Is that normal or something popular after King?

I once had to take an education class to get a state certification. The only such class open at the time was on the doctoral level. So I signed up for it.

What a complete joke that class was! A good algebra problem would have been more challenging.

Anyway, I now have three doctoral credits in education. So I demand that people address me as “Almost Doctor”. It’s only fair.

And it was just as ridiculous to call him “doctor”. But the leftists wanted to add gravitas to his personal, as they are doing with Jill.

I found the answer to my earlier question. King was appropriately addressed as Reverend Doctor King. In some Protestant churches the title Reverend Doctor is appropriate. You would think if I could learn this a hard hitting quasi-journalist like Wallace would have figured it out.

Drs King and Kissinger weren't functional illiterates as Jill is. The two men contributed to the culture in memorable ways.

Jill's main contribution seems to be throwing her weight behind getting a demented oldster elected to the Oval Office.

And the title "Doctor" is not usually used by most for Dr. Thomas Sowell nor the late Dr. Walter Williams, though I usually do.

“Reverend Doctor” isn’t unusually in church settings. Of course using the title helped King get more respect when his movement benefited from it. A lot less is at stake with Dr. Jill.

In the big scheme of things I don’t really care. It is just a title and in the academic world it is used often.

I do think it is funny and it is also insightful about the person who has the most influence on Joe.

I will go on record though about her thesis. That was awful. High school level work at best. One can only draw two conclusions - that institution of higher learning is a complete joke and she got a PhD because of her last name.

That paper was dreadful. Even the cogent points were just liberal literary diarrhea. If this is the kind of crap that so many have gone so far into debt to learn we are in much worse shape than we realize as a nation.

There's a tradition of referring to people with PhD's in theology as Dr.

Probably because there is a plethora of pastors who have no real education--theological or otherwise (cough cough, Robert Morris, Ken Hovid cough cough).
