Committee assignments are one of the least eye-catching parts of politics, but they’re also one of the most important ways in which actual political power is wielded. Certain committees in the House, like Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, and Appropriations, have outsized influence and money power....
But in a surprise, last-second Steering Committee meeting on exclusive committee assignments Thursday, which was scheduled at 10 p.m. the night before, centrist Democrats put on a show of support for Rice and against AOC, in what looks to have been a process-defying attempt to keep AOC out of the seat....
After Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) called for a vote on the two candidates came an unusual outcome: Rice crushed AOC 46-13.

Too bad, so sad. Maybe she can get coffee for the committee.
Absolutely. As Andrew Klavan pointed out recently, the real goal of the people who run the Democrat Party is not socialism, but Chinese-style authoritarian state capitalism. Markets, but no freedom.
Another stupid, intentionally mis-leading article.
The “Centrists” did not reject her. There are no centrists in the Party. The media is distorting the news to give that impression.
It takes seniority and ,more importantly, money to get a ‘plum’ assignment.
AOC didn’t have either.
THAT IS WHY SHE DIDN’T GET THE SEAT, AND ALL THE MEDIA KNOW THAT.
Maybe next term she’ll have a PAC of rich libs to give dough to her peers for their vote.
Oh oh, better not upset the little bar tending pit bull.
I figured the DemonRatz would have a “Horse Faced, Commie Ex-Bartender” Committee.
She already cut in line ahead of many rank and file who resent the hell out of her. So there will be payback when they can do so.
Might have been a different outcome if they’d had to vote in public.
If Dem turnout is a few percent less than usual, they are at real risk. Of course, now we know Dems can manufacture votes. So the point could be moot.:)
You’d think supporters mean power but money in hand buys the assignments.
And it makes sense: money today vs maybe supporters tomorrow.
RE: AOC.
If the voting age was still 21 the Dems couldn’t manufacture enough votes to get such idiots elected.
I despise her and Pelosi. Gotta say though, THIS is sweet justice. AOC was believing her own press and is clearly very, VERY full of herself.
Wait until NY has to redistrict. She will find herself out of a seat.
“Wait until NY has to redistrict. She will find herself out of a seat.”
That will be a fun election.
I’ve been trying to tell democrats that they shouldn’t be happy that the deep-state used election fraud to get Trump out. Wait until it is their turn. By then it will be too late.
