Okay this is a stupid argument. There are many different types of doctorate. A lawyer is actually a JD (Doctor of jurisprudence). A chemist or physicist is a PhD (Doctor of philosophy) A doctor of education is an EeD.
Get off this topic already. Who cares about Jill Biden.
Her next goal is to become the next “Mrs. Wilson”:

As if we needed another article about this. This article in particular comes across as mean and vindictive. “Dr. Jill Biden” is a joke, everyone knows it, like “Dr. Phil” and Dr. Gorka. Its pointless.
I'm not defending anyone named Biden, but this is an insult to my dad who held an Ed.D. He retired as Professor Emeritus, something a whole bunch of Pd.D.s didn't.
A doctorate in ‘education’ is garbage. Any teacher wanting a real doctorate can get one. The education system created this idiot participation trophy to try to elevate their standing.
what you think of her dissertation is irrelevant. the institution who awarded the phd to her accepted it as sufficient. you have no voice in the matter. there are many more concrete reasons to criticize the bidens other that this seemingly petty matter.
What she wrote should have been at least 150 pages of original thesis work.
How bout we call her the talking ed??
The accepted practice is medical doctors are always addressed as doctor, while those with academic doctorates are addressed with the title in an academic setting or at work when working in the field of that doctorate.
We have a loser that I occasionally have to deal with at work who throws a fit if anyone fails to call him Doctor. He allegedly has a Th.D (or maybe an M.Div) from some school that closed down 30 years ago, moved its records to the basement of another school, and then lost them all in a flood. He told me the name of the school - Google never heard of it.
He’s a level 1 tech support, I’m level 2, so I occasionally have to deal with him. I call him Mr. (usually) or Dave (when I’m trying to not aggravate him) but there is no way I’m calling him Dr. (except behind his back, he’s Mr. Dr. W__.)
My guess is he took some certificate class from a church and was told it was the equivalent of doctorate-level class, so he went with the title. This guy can’t even compose an email, so there is no way he wrote all the papers required. (The class may have had doctorate-level teaching, but there definitely wasn’t doctorate-level learning.)
Thanks for posting this; the article is hilarious!
Also, for those unaware, Joe Biden’s wife’s dissertation is titled, “Student Retention at the Community College: Meeting Students’ Needs,” available here: https://www.worldcat.org/title/student-retention-at-the-community-college-meeting-students-needs/oclc/277239931
There is truth in this criticism.
Ok I got a story that has you all beat !
I used to work for a woman that had a PhD in Math.
She went to court and officially changed her first name to “Dr Her-First-Name etc.”. This was so all official paperwork had the “Dr” on it.
In many ways she was a nice person but for that. Also she insisted in work meetings that if you had an academic title you use it.
Yes people are strange !
How about Doctor Martin Luther King? “Doctor” of Systematic Theology?
I think you don’t understand what a doctorate means or why it is used or not used. People with doctorates use the title to communicate their level of formal training, not to deceive someone that they practice medicine. Doctorates in fields of specialized study existed long before medical societies decided to start their own doctorate programs. In some parts of the globe, medical doctorate programs don’t exist for surgeons even though their graduates have training equivalent to US medical school standards. You also have people in allied health such as psychologists, optometrists, dentists and chiropractors who have minimal to no medical training, but who have doctorates. In some fields, the highest level of training is the doctorate degree, but it is rarely used because other titles are used to reference to their doctorate training.
Dr. Jill is married to Neil Kinnock, right?
I agree with this. I have a MA in English and have edited a few Ph.D. Ed.’s dissertations and they’re not more than a statistics or narrative driven thesis.
Ph.D = Piled higher and deeper.
This kind of -doctor- is garbage anyway. Only an MD should be referred to as doctor IMHO.
