In a clash of the Tech Titans, social media giant Facebook has lashed out at iPhone maker Apple in a full-page ad in at least three U.S. newspapers, claiming that Facebook is standing up to Apple on the behalf of small businesses.
9to5Mac reports that social media giant Facebook has lashed out at iPhone maker Apple claiming to be the defender of small businesses. Facebook ran full-page ads in at least three U.S. newspapers claiming that Apple is negatively affecting small business owners by preventing the running of targeted ads with the latest iPhone update.
--snip--
The ad relates to a recent iOS update that will force apps to ask permission if they want to use ad-tracking from next year on. It is currently expected that most users will refuse, meaning that apps won’t be able to easily offer personalized ads.
This change would have a significant impact on Facebook as the ads it carries in its app will be worth less to its ad customers. Facebook claims that it is in fact standing up for small businesses rather than protecting its own profits.

I'm getting creeped out more and more by Facebook's invasive spying. The other day, my wife and I drove past a Crate and Barrel nestled among several other well-known stores. My wife said: "I'd like to stop in Crate and Barrel". I told her we didn't have time and we drove to our dinner. She didn't look anything up on her phone. She didn't even have her Facebook app open on her iPhone. She just made the statement she wanted to stop in Crate and Barrel. She otherwise never shops at that store.
When we arrived home, she opened her Facebook app on her phone, and there, prominently, was an ad for Crate and Barrel.
There's some evil s**t going on there...
That’s great! Now if only they would make products in the US......
FFB. I got a new phone, begrudgingly. I had to root it all the way down to the base OS and erase the filth of facebook. I don’t have it, don’t use it, don’t want it, didn’t ask for it, yet it is hard installed on the phone I got. I don’t want google either but don’t want to pay the premium for the iphones. If I had the option I’d go back to my old Blackberry.
Yep.... APPLE = PRIVACY for its customers.
FACEBOOK (and Google, Twitter, et al) = Harvest, sell any monetize ALL available data and information about their users.
FaceBook needs to be planted under the grass.
Perhaps she had been looking at their website before you left.
Thank you Apple
Nope. She never shops there (we don't have one close by, this one was 1-1/2 hours from our house) and we came across the store randomly while going out to dinner.
This isn't the first time some weird crap like this has happened with her Facebook page.
I have a FB account. It is under a pseudonym, with the wrong age, and interest. The only targeted adverts I get are for products I do not like or want. I feel like I am costing them money by tracking a ghost.
Facebook fighting on behalf of small businesses? That's a laugh!
Facebook is probably doing this to deflect attention from their vote buying efforts in swing states.
Better put some ice on it, Suckerberg.
LOL ... I love it! Keep it up, Apple! I’m all for it.
Your account still generates about $110 per year for Facebook. You are literally funding the enemy.
Same thing happens to my wife all the time.
Good cop, bad cop routine! MANIPULATION!!! They’re both EVIL! No thanks!
A full six feet under, right along with that son of a bitch Zuckerberg.
You’ll get no argument from me...
I didn’t think I would. I just felt better saying it and taking another swig of my beer. :-)

Hey Fai Mao, you may be surprised what they can do to track who you really are. There’s a company called LexisNexis who has a system that collaborates with 2,000 digital firms who share your identity information anonymously.
So the network discovers what persona you are, and through algorithms and where you log into the network, they can pretty much figure out where you live if they want to.
What I do which probably helps a bit have my internet home page with all my favorite links residing on my PC. Then when I go somewhere I rarely need to use the search engine. I go straight to Ebay and buy something and the search engine won’t know.
This is a wonderful development on Apple’s part. It makes the Apple platform more attractive and that will put pressure on Facebook, Android, etc. to respect privacy more than they have.
The other factor is that Virtual Private Networks are available for only $20 a year now. So Facebook and Google feel the need to get into Amazon’s business — a plenty of high-end brick and motor and e-commerce.
Big battles going on among the Tech giants.
