In 2018, POTUS declared a national emergency to deal with the threat of foreign interference in US elections.

In 5 days, a report is due by DNI John Ratcliffe to be delivered to Steve Mnuchin, Chris Miller, Chad Wolf, Mike Pompeo, Bill Barr, & the POTUS.

From my reading of Trump's Executive Order #13848 dated Sept. 12, 2018, the wording is not hard and fast on these time constraints:

".... Section 1. (a) Not later than 45 days after the conclusion of a United States election...."

"Section 1. (b) Within 45 days of receiving the assessment and information described in section 1(a) of this order...."

There is flexibility in the time limits for both sections.

Section 1. (a) could have happened any day after the election and still comply with the EO wording, as long as it wasn't later than the 45 day limitation.

And Section 1. (b) the same thing. It could have happened anytime after the assessment in Section 1 (a) was received, as long as it was within the 45 limitation.

In my mind, both of these issues could have already been addressed and a decision been made to invoke the terms of the EO.

Read the EO again. There is no mention of a hard date of 12/18. It talks about “within” 45 days of 11/3, which could be anywhere from 11/4 until 12/18.

If you’re going to do that why bother with trials? With martial law in place and the Constitution in the trash then Trump can stay in office as long as he wants.

I don’t understand this desire for dictatorship that seems widespread around here, but I take comfort in my confidence that Trump has too much respect for the Constitution and the Founding Fathers to resort to something as ridiculous as that.

I agree with you on martial law idea...It is a silly idea...

I do concede that President has the right to declare martial law...But, I don’t think he should do it in this case...Absolutely not...

I voted for President twice...I also gave money to his campaign twice...
But, I do not want him to stay in office no matter what...Courts do not rule for him...State legislatures will not help him...Mr. Trump should leave in January...No martial law...

Perhaps, perhaps not. But any martial law or military takeover is separate from this Executive Order, which deals solely with external intervention.

Agree. Plus tomorrow the names of the 2 million CCP are supposed to be made public. Aprox 300,000 expected to be operating in the US. It will be interesting to see who they are linked to.
