Among first acts, Biden to call for 100 days of mask-wearing

Joe Biden said Thursday that he will ask Americans to commit to 100 days of wearing masks as one of his first acts as president, stopping just short of the nationwide mandate he’s pushed before to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The move marks a notable shift from President Donald Trump, whose own skepticism of mask-wearing has contributed to a politicization of the issue. That’s made many people reticent to embrace a practice that public health experts say is one of the easiest ways to manage the pandemic, which has killed more than 275,000 Americans.

The president-elect has frequently emphasized mask-wearing as a “patriotic duty” and during the campaign floated the idea of instituting a nationwide mask mandate, which he later acknowledged would be beyond the ability of the president to enforce.

Speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Biden said he would make the request of Americans on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.

“On the first day I’m inaugurated, I’m going to ask the public for 100 days to mask. Just 100 days to mask — not forever, just 100 days. And I think we’ll see a significant reduction” in the virus, Biden said.

Biden also said he asked Dr. Anthony Fauci to stay on in his administration, “in the exact same role he’s had for the past several presidents,” as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the nation’s top infectious-disease expert.

The president-elect said he’s asked Fauci to be a “chief medical adviser” as well as part of his COVID-19 advisory team.

Regarding a coronavirus vaccine, Biden said he’d be “happy” to get inoculated in public to assuage any concerns about its efficacy and safety. Three former presidents — Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton — have said they’d also get vaccinated publicly to show that it’s safe.

“People have lost faith in the ability of the vaccine to work,” Biden said, adding that “it matters what a president and the vice president do.”

In the same interview, Biden also weighed in on reports that Trump is considering pardons of himself and his allies.

“It concerns me in terms of what kind of precedent it sets and how the rest of the world looks at us as a nation of laws and justice,” Biden said.

Biden committed that his Justice Department will “operate independently” and that whoever he chooses to lead the department will have the “independent capacity to decide who gets investigated.”

“You’re not going to see in our administration that kind of approach to pardons, nor are you going to see in our administration the approach to making policy by tweets,” he said.

Vice President-elect Kamala Harris added that any decision coming out of the Department of Justice “should be based on facts, should be based on the law — it should not be influenced by politics.”

“kamala Harris added that any decision coming out of the Department of Justice “should be based on facts, should be based on the law — it should not be influenced by politics.””

Translation: We will appoint Chesa Boudin, Keith Ellison or Letitia James as Attorney General, and when they charge Trump and anyone close to him, Kamala and Joe will solemnly say they cannot interfere.

My Dog and I never wear one when driving to the very nearby National Forest for our daily hike.

The deer we see don’t wear any either.

There was a Denmark study that showed that there was no significant impact in reducing COVID-19 cases with wearing masks. But if Grandpa Joe ordered us to wear masks for 100 days and that is all he is doing while we are getting vaccines out, I could live with that.

Please folks, tell me you don’t see this. 100 days and the media will report the CV19 is gone and F*cktard Sleepy Joe can make water into wine.

Not only that, millions of vaccines will have been given out within that 100 days. As cases go down, the credit will be given to Biden and this 100 day mask plan and the media will play along.

Ha, ha! That’s going to be fun on the interstate highways!

Put on masks on the on-ramp. Point at other drivers and passengers who aren’t wearing masks while looking worried. Then take our masks off and start laughing! ;D

I’m not running a taxi service, so *no* masks on the interstate. It’s enough to wear one for a few blocks between a store and a post office, but that’s it (easier than taking it off and putting it back on).

I don’t know where they think people aren’t wearing masks but here in the liberal Upper Valley of NH, near Dartmouth College, everyone wears them religiously.

It’s rare to see someone without one, even when they are outside, walking or driving alone.

They are dutiful little sheeple following the dictates of their betters, who don’t follow them themselves.

If Biden gets in and demands this, the Karens of the world are going to be more insufferable than ever.

Same here. The sheep are the norm. Saw a mom and her 2 kids walk by my house today with no one else at all around. All wearing masks. It boils me. Everywhere I go. This is funny as hell though:

Nobody ever walks by my house. Now that deer season is over, we won’t see a single soul near our property until May, which is fine with me.

I haven't worn a mask since this thing started last February. I go into stores all the time without a mask and nobody says a word to me.

For those places that refuse entry without a mask, I refuse to give them my business.

My wife and granddaughter don't wear masks either. My wife and I are bother former medical people in our careers and know that masks can't stop viruses. Germs and bacteria maybe but not viruses.

We live in Florida and the mask mandates around here are not like in some blue state dictatorships. And don't say we're lucky. We don't live in those blue states by design.

If Biden were to become president, which he won't, he doesn't have any authority to force people to wear masks. The guys a bumbling idiot to begin with.
