I learned from Don Boudreaux this morning that Walter Williams died either this morning or last night. For those of you who don’t know, he was a long-time economics professor at George Mason University.
I’ll have more to say later but I want to give one appreciation.
Walter liked smoking and he also hated the TSA. Some years ago, the combination of no-smoking regs on planes and intrusive groping by the TSA caused him to vow never to fly by commercial airline again. When he received offers to give speeches that were far enough away that driving was infeasible, he negotiated for a private airplane to take him there.
RIP/MEMORY ETERNAL, Professor Wailter E. Williams.
There’s a certain paradox to this considering how Mark Lebanon eulogizes Walter Williams today and me knowing this fact about the Confederate battle flag on his desk and Mark Levin’s open dislike for much of southern history I suppose in Marks Urban Jewish viewpoint that anyone on the right in the south is a potential Nazi somehow
I agree with Levin On many issues but when it comes to the south he might as will be sinkspur
Either filled in or was a guest. Forgot which.
“But let me offer you my definition of social justice: I keep what I earn and you keep what you earn. Do you disagree? Well then tell me how much of what I earn belongs to you - and why?”
- Walter E. Williams
Indeed. I love both Walt and Tom Sowell, but I prefer Walt because he takes the south side!
Didn’t know about Levin. Guess he doesn’t like those southern Jews.
About 15 yrs ago, I called his office at George Mason University and got him on the phone...we talked a good 30 mins on economics...I will never forget it.
Rest in peace, professor.

Wow. What did y’all discuss?
“Black by popular demand!
What a great patriot. I met him once about 20 years ago at Hillsdale College.
RIP”
You were blessed to be at Hillsdale and meet him!
“Did he teach true Free Market Economics - the voluntary cooperation between buyers and sellers in the marketplace free from government interference - the true “Wealth of Nations?”
Jim, listen to him or read him and decide for yourself. That might be best.

Economics, Rush, and the program at GMU as my son was beginning to show a math aptitude...I was so shocked I got him on the phone, without a secretary answering, too...he did say something like, “ I’ll have to ask Mrs Williams...”

What was your question that he was going to ask Mrs. Williams about?
He was one of the best substitute hosts. If you haven’t read his memoir, Up from the Projects, you should check it out. He has an amazing story.
I read he died Wed. am after teaching yesterday.
I told him about the book Jewish Confederates written by I believe Rosen
Back when Mark used to post here
anti-Jewish cinnamon in the American south is a canard
It’s just always dovetailed with stuff like freedom riders lore
The truth is Jews were never more free in history then in the antebellum South where they could Own land and practice commerce as they saw fit of course those were Sephardic Jews quite a bit different than Fabian Ashkenazim

Something related to whether he would still be teaching my son was old enough to attend. Anyway it was a fleeting thought and of course my son did not end up going there. I think I was more interested in becoming an economist but that didn’t happen either. I think most of us listening to Rush Limbaugh and the number of times that Walter Williams hosted and interviewed, Thomas Sowell, during his substitutions, we probably all have earned honorary degrees.
LOL - Great comment...
Our cause lost one of it’s most ardent supporters....deepest condolences.
And promptly resold by TSA thugs. I think they have a felon to TSA agent program. I lost a brand new jacket and hat by taking my eyes off the conveyor belt for 10 seconds at that dreaded NJ airport!!! Worst airport yet!!
