States that had the fewest restrictions now have the worst outbreaks
The New York Times ^ | November 18, 2020 | Lauren Leatherby and Rich Harris

Coronavirus cases are rising in almost every U.S. state. But the surge is worst now in places where leaders neglected to keep up forceful virus containment efforts or failed to implement basic measures like mask mandates in the first place, according to a New York Times analysis of data from the University of Oxford.

Using an index that tracks policy responses to the pandemic, these charts show the number of new virus cases and hospitalizations in each state relative to the state’s recent containment measures.

The NY Slimes will update this article in the near future using three or four writers instead of two, just to show they are really, really serious.

I suspect the article does not mention the change in the definition of "cases" from a person who is showing symptoms to a person who tests positive for presence of the virus.

It is a large difference.

For herd immunity, a large increase in the number of people who test positive is expected and a positive development.

I got this for free online from a Twitter troll, so I could mock this article and the people who wrote it.

The metric makes no sense unless the measurement is normalized by age group.

It is well known that Covid19 is much deadlier for people over 65.

The Dakotas have much older populations than many other states, for example.

The column to look for is cases/1m population. Click on column headers to sort from high to low. South Dakota is high, but death-wise (deaths/1m population), it’s #10. #1 in deaths/capita is NJ, followed by NY.

34,389 deaths in New York... 12,604 more deaths than the next largest death toll state of Texas with 21,785. California, another ‘lock down’ state... 19,034 deaths. Of the 8 states with more than 10 thousand deaths, 6 of them are lock down states.

We need to decide upon a day when all businesses and churches and residents under “lockdown” rules decide to reopen and go about their business in a widespread and permanent act of civil disobedience.

They cannot arrest us all.

And if the police try, guess who will become the newest advocates of “defunding the police”???

We’ve always had the power all along. We just have to decide when to use it.

This is true of the flu as well. And even the common cold.

Another way of saying is the virus hit those areas the hardest which have not been hit before......ie where herd immunity is thus the lowest.

But that couldn’t possibly have anything to do with it right Racist NY Times?

Actually... It’s a much higher survival rate than that when you consider that for every known infection, there are 10 unknown infections. 13,249,447 infections in the Unites States turns into over 130 million infections.

The actual death rate is 0.02% of the earths population. The Spanish flu killed off 3% of the earths population.
