Why wait until the eve of his second term when it can be done now.
By taking a pardon, Flynn is basically admitting guilt. There is no way an appeal or the SCOTUS would let this stand.

Why wait until the eve of his second term when it can be done now? Particularly given that Flynn's attorney is quite busy with one or more cases with major national security implications. Those cases, incidentally are much more important than sparring with an egocentric, politically motivated federal judge.
