“He seems to want exoneration.”

If his case is dismisse3d he gets the fruits of his life’s labor back, his pension, fees, etc.

A pardon gives him freedom, but does NOT pay him back for what he lost.

In the end, if he gets case dismissed or he gets pardoned, he can be a GOP superstar and potentially make enough money to be made whole (Speaking fees and/or books and/or TV/radio bookings).
