Ayanna Pressley: Canceling Student Debt Will Ensure ‘Equitable’ Economic Recovery

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) pushed for the cancellation of student debt to help “ensure” an “equitable” economic recovery from the effects of the shutdowns amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Pressley told MSNBC that she will push the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris administration to cancel student debt via executive order on day one.

“I’m certainly not going to abdicate my responsibility to continue to fight for [a coronavirus relief package],” Pressley advised. “You know, this Democratic majority-led House has passed multiple bills to meet the scale and scope of this crisis to mitigate the hurt people are feeling, and this callous, and might I add clueless, GOP-led Senate has refused to act. And they have consistently failed the American people.”

“I can only tell you what I have continued to advocate for is everything from paid leave, which, you know, these should not be controversial,” she added. “The fact that people need to be able to stay home from work because they’re not feeling well or to take care of ill loved ones, again, canceling rent and mortgages, eviction and foreclosure moratoriums. I mean, I’m getting projections in my district of 60,000 to 100,000 who are vulnerable and on the precipice of eviction right now in the midst of a pandemic, which is surging out of control and, of course, unprecedented food insecurity. And so, first and foremost, we have got to get this pandemic under control, make the robust federal investments for a national testing strategy, the investments for contact tracing, and then once a vaccine is made available, ensure that it is equitably distributed. We are finally turning the page on this dark chapter in our history. ”

No doubt the relief will be for people of color not the white supremacist, white privileged majority that makes this country run

Students and parents had to know where they were sending their kids and what they would get there. yes, it’s expensive... too much for that kind of education.

I experienced the cost when the college told us what part of that education we had to pay..

I know it is a political point.. anything free and kids gravitate to the person handing it out. and there is an excellent chance if it’s a dem offering.. there is a good chance it is onother lie.

as for the colleges.. the old saying holds the gullible responsible over the ones serving the gullible. business these days is “if you can get away with it.. then do it”. I stay from offers...

I remember when there was a JC Penny store everywhere.. dime stores everywhere... montgomery and ward everywhere.. and latest, sears.. drugstores with soda fountains.. businesses that survived and thrived for years... until walmart came along...
the small town I lived in had 5 grocery stores. some very small but they made their living serving the public.. a walmart 10 miles away shut them all down.

What isn’t commonly known is the Left has been telling their BOTS “Join a non profit and they will eliminate your student loan” mantra since 2006.

If Dem congresscritteers want to cancel student debt, they should pay for it out of their own salaries. In fact, since Obama encouraged everyone to flood the universities, and opened the coffers of the govt to questionable loans, his book proceeds should be garnished for the sums, too. At a demand for $15/hr wages, there is no reason people can’t repay an average of $20K in loans. It’s less than a car payment.

Put their money where their mouths are because America is tired of being robbed.
