Watch for this next proposal ... in order to “pay” for the canceled debt, the gov’t will raid the 529 College Funds all around the country.

They will use some BS excuse that they will propose “Free” College for everyone, so we don’t need to save money for our kids education ... then wham! All the 529’s will be raided.

I am holding off putting any more money into my daughter’s 529 until further notice.

Equitable in the sense that those who chose alternate paths have no benefit for their good choices?

i paid for both kids undergrad as well. Paid for 4 years graduate education (seminary) for my son - as a pastor we didn’t want him to have any debt that would be very difficult to repay. Couldn’t pay for daughters nee school but did pay her living expenses - she still has 250k i. loans that she is a scrimping and saving to pay back. If the government pays off loans I figure they owe me about 160k for the tuition i paid ..... of course all i will get is a bill for someone’s gender studies degree and an sucker sticker

When teachers forgo their salaries, when universities start dipping into their endowments, when universities stop with the banning of conservatives, etc, etc....then we can talk.

Until then do what I did. GET A JOB.

My oldest is about to start school Guess what I'm telling them: GET A JOB and retake the SAT for schollies.

I would love to see a conservative/liberal breakdown on who thinks this is a great plan.

Why student debt? Why not, instead, give money to people who own property and who have been deprived of rent money by the government?

I know why. Because the left hates private property, and wants to train college-age people to depend on the government.

I am not a landlord.

The left should pay for the damage they created. So should all lockdown supporters including those here on Free Republic. Taking private property or destroying it for a public purpose calls for compensation under the Constitutions “takings” clause.

So she may have a point in some way. But no money for voluntary acts. The giverment destroying your job is one thing. Quitting your job is another.

The #1 investor source for the money providing student loans is the federal employees retirement fund. One aught not expect that the collective “Mr.Potter” bank is going to forgive loans. Not even George Bailey would do that.

I would argue that it is inequitable to all the precedents that faithfully paid back their student loans.

Colleges should forfeit the money received for worthless teaching. Most colleges are a scam.

How does stealing from others to pay off someone else's student loan equal 'Equitable'?

First off too many of these loans were taken out by children(no matter what their age) and spent on partying, vacation trips, consumer goods, and bullshit courses and degrees that are and always were worthless in the real world of jobs. Why should I be responsible for paying for someone's stupidity and poor judgement?

Hey Cueball you wanna be equitable than put 40 to 60 grand in my pocket while your playing Santa Clause with other peoples money. By the way do you plan on forgiving all these asshats taxes on the sudden income they have from this 'Equitable" debt forgiveness?

Remember--those with student debt did not have to go to college. It was a debt they took on voluntarily. So why should the rest of us have to pay for an individual's poorly made decision? By that logic, we should pay off the mortgages of those who could not afford a house, pay off the car loans of those who bit off more than they could chew financially, pay for the weddings of those whose grandiose concepts exceeded their wallet, etc. Pure and simple commie thinking--there is no individual responsibility.

How about holding the colleges liable for paying off student loans. After all, they give the kids a totally biased education, devoid of critical thinking and taught by by narrow-minded socialists.

We have been paying as my son goes, We have now decided to just take loans for the rest, put the money we would pay away, and if the commies pay off the debt, I get to keep some money. I know it’s wrong but from now on I will not be an honorable sucker. time for us to use their rules against them.
