Cleese is a very funny guy. But he is very far on the Left and he has disdain for Christianity. Now he sees the transgender stuff from the Left and he wants to dissociate himself from those people on the Left. I suspect he has no idea that everyone of the Left is on the Left because they share the same basic, muddled thinking about personal responsibility.
