A U.S. Navy veteran, Clyde gained political exposure in recent years by pushing Congress to pass legislation limiting the IRSs powers for civil asset forfeiture after the agency seized nearly $1 million from his gun store.
Clyde credited the experience with inspiring him to run for office, saying in a debate last month that it showed me theres a very thin line between we the people running our government and our government running us.
Clyde grew a small firearms business he launched in his Athens garage in 1991 into a nationwide company with two locations, following three combat deployments in Iraq and Kuwait.
Ahead of Tuesdays victory, Clyde defeated several prominent state Republican contenders including three current state lawmakers to capture the nomination.
Among them were state Rep. Matt Gurtler, R-Tiger, who fell to Clyde in an August runoff. Gurtlers reputation for frequently voting against GOP-backed bills prompted many state Republican leaders to support Clyde.
It may be significant that this staunch defender of the Constitution defeated a prominent RINO in the primary run-off.
This is a seat from Athens, GA. The gun store they mention is Clyde Armory.
Need coffee!
Silly mistake on my part.
N. Georgia abuts N. Carolina, so close!
;-P
Did they mean decisively in the headline? Sheesh. Journalism today (present company excluded).
I bet it drives all the Leftists in Athens nuts that a gun store owner is their rep. University town, UGA is there. Athens-Clark County government is pretty Leftist.
How many House seats does that make that Republicans took?
Is anyone keeping count?
Several still in contention.
It appears there is a Republican gain of 5-8 seats.
Nice...Georgia not NC thou...
They were naming the women republicans who took back Congressional seats and I know it was more than 8. That was a few days ago, but each new win, and there have been a few more since that early message, means that Pelosi might lose her status, as well as her composure, which would be a delightful scene to watch! LOL!
They show the Republicans with a 4 seat gain. Looking at still contested races in their charts, it looks as though there are another 9 seats leaning Republican in the House. That would give the Republicans 205 seats and the Democrats 230 seats.
Thank you.
I would love to see all those seats go republican.
Decidedly works.
