PUEBLO, Colo. Its a common story across America: A city loses its main employer, usually a manufacturing company with well-paying, blue-collar jobs (that often go to China). The citys economy crumbles, and those who can move out, do.
Decades later, and looking peeling-paint tired, the city hasnt managed to recover, but drugs have found a permanent home.
In Pueblo, Colorado, the manufacturer was a steel plant beleaguered by a market crash in the 1980s and worker strikes in the 1990s. And one drug was given a red-carpet welcome.
For years, Pueblo has been looking for industries to revive its economy, and when recreational marijuana was legalized for retail sale in Colorado in 2014, many saw it as the answer. More people would be employed and the tax money would go to schools and infrastructure.

And New Jersey is about to legalize it after it is voted in during this election. Im sure of it.
Not a claim, but a fact of present day life & historically.
The dosage should be determined by the patient & their doctor only.
Medicine is not a one-size-fits all box you just fit people into to satisfy some nanny-state need to be in control of what other people do.

Waiter, I'll have some of what he's having. Plus a bag of Funyons.
The OP maybe got their feelings hurt?
It’s just wrong for JR to do that.
So economically, its been a benefit to the city,
Yeah... the POLITICIANS.
Having traveled the country for my job, Ive seen first hand what this has done for cities.
Used to love going to Colorado because the towns were nice little towns. Then the 0bama thing happened and then they legalized pot.
Now I hate going there. So many areas of those SAME nice little towns are unkempt and lots of vacant storefronts. And all along the way are dregs camped out like gangs. You can smell the burning bud and they come out like the walking dead to hit you up for money.
And the politicians who got the town hooked on legalization are NEVER gonna be able to get the town off this addiction.
Pretty much what happened in Europe. I do CBD and the benefits are amazing IF it works for you. I found the “pain benefits” of weed also exist with CBD. I never liked getting stoned but the sleep benefits are tempting especially as you age. They should legalize it more for older people. I’d love to grow a few plants as my son has a hemp farm and he knows how to do it.
“Medicine is not a one-size-fits all”
No, but clearly there are dangerous levels of THC. Should you just be able to buy ANY drug at whatever strength you want even if it far above the safe level?
Because drunks are useless slackers, should we ban their drug? I say no.
Oh yeah... wait... uh, what were we talking about?
No no no. Add another drug. Then, another. Then, more. Let sober foreigners take all the jobs and degrees from our drug-fogged populace.
If adding drugs by legalization is bad, wouldn't subtracting the drug alcohol by criminalization be good? Do you support criminalizing alcohol? I don't
So you like drunks and all they do as well?
I don’t.
This is not a conservative site, it is libertarian for a lot.
You have zero experience in determining what is too much for any individual consume. I highly recommend you educate yourself with people who use cannabis daily as a medicine. Better to speak with certain knowledge and experience than reciting propaganda and paid for garbage.
Just another freeper-Nanny stator (barf)
Quit posting.
So you like drunks and all they do as well?
No - but I like even less how substance bans give a lucrative monopoly to criminals, thus increasing their means and motive for violence.

JimRob has shown no interest in banning consistent advocates of limited government; if ypou don't like it, you know where the door is.
You know nothing about me, dopehead. But the article is about the dangers of unrestricted RECREATIONAL use. Not prescribed by a doctor.
Have you ever actually been to Colorado?
We have had legal pot in MA for a while. The buildings still stand. The streets are not any worse. And there are hardly any lines at the pot store anymore.
Name calling shows is evidence of a weak vocabulary & a weak mind.
I feel very sorry for you.
Nanny-state authoritarians are no different in my book than Nancy Pelosi & ChuckU “we know better than you what you should & should not do”.
