Early voting sites in Florida GOP strongholds to close early due to hurricane

With Hurricane Zeta expected to hit the Florida Panhandle on Wednesday, three counties in this conservative region will shorten their early voting hours, a move that could hurt the GOP.

Escambia, Okaloosa, and Santa Rosa counties are all Republican strongholds, Politico reports, and are expectedly to easily go for Trump. But Florida is a swing state, and Republicans have been counting on getting more voters to cast their ballots early in person, as more Democrats are returning their ballots by mail.

In Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, early voting hours are normally from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., but because of Zeta, the voting sites will close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday before reopening at 11 a.m. on Thursday, assuming there is no extensive damage caused by the storm. In Okaloosa County, early voting sites will close two hours early on Wednesday and open two hours later than normal on Thursday.

"It's an abundance of caution for us," Okaloosa County Supervisor of Elections Paul Lux told Politico. "Hurricane Sally just in September weakened a bunch of trees and power lines, so we need to be careful, but I do think we will get back up and running quickly."

...Out of caution, Ds should shelter in a basement with the lid on for the next week...

A septic tank is even more protected than a basement and should be a first choice for Democrats.

The hurricane is coming in 20 miles to the west of me - and I’m 100 miles west of the Florida panhandle.

Watch out, its coming in as forecast Cat 2 now, blew up and sped up.

“Abundance of caution” means never trust a weather man to be 100% right about anything, especially storms in the GOM

90 mph, moving N at 17, its ‘acomin fast

Yep - been watching it.
We dodged the other ones but this one has the Gulfport area in its sights.
The speed of movement will be a big help though by minimizing the high wind/rain windows.
We’re staying in our condo - it was high and dry for Katrina so except for flying debris/possible roof/window damage, (the place is pretty battened down to minimize flying projectiles) it should be Ok as long as power isn’t out for extended period - and no tornados happen to track across us..
Plenty of food/water/gas on hand and been through a few of this strength and greater to have a sense.
I actually have a dental appointment in2-1/2 hours and am waiting to see if they cancel or let it happen.

Of course, I would strongly advise democrats to evacuate immediately and stay well inland, preferably in a different state

No! Don't send them to different states. They'll try to vote there.
