Dr Anthony Fauci has cautioned that early COVID-19 vaccines will be focused on preventing symptoms of the virus, not blocking it altogether.
Fauci, the nation's leading expert on infectious diseases, made the point on Monday as at least four vaccine candidates near the end of clinical trials and the US reported a record number of new cases in the last week.
While the end goal of the vaccines will be to eradicate the virus, Fauci noted that developers are aiming for a simpler goal in the first round of jabs.
'The primary thing you want to do is that if people get infected, prevent them from getting sick, and if you prevent them from getting sick, you will ultimately prevent them from getting seriously ill,' Fauci said at Yahoo Finance's All Markets Summit.
'If the vaccine also allows you to prevent initial infection, that would be great. [But] what I would settle for, and all of my colleagues would settle for, is the primary endpoint to prevent clinically recognizable disease.'
Fauci's comments put a damper on America's hopes that forthcoming vaccines will bring the pandemic to its knees, highlighting the ongoing importance of other infection prevention methods like masks and social distancing.

Moving the goal post once again. Now, not even the vaccine is enough, because that’ll only mask the symptoms. And since they’ve made everyone terrified of “asymptomatic spread”, people will continue to view their neighbors as biohazards even after the vaccine is rushed to market. Amazing to think that the goal posts STARTED at “2 weeks to flatten the curve”.

Do we care? If I have mild sniffles and no one is hospitalized because of it, why do I care whether the vaccine “prevents infection” or just keeps it from being serious?

That misleadingly implies that a different approach was taken, then would be taken to “block it altogether”. It makes people think that these are “initial” attempts, that are throwaway interim steps, toward a “real” vaccine.
That is simply not the case. These early vaccines are designed to develop immunity against the disease, like any other vaccine.
What he is twisting there (to deliberately mislead), is that the vaccine will likely not be 100% effective (virtually none are). So in many cases, partial immunity may be produced (lesser symptoms), rather than full immunity.
They later report in the article, that he “suggested that it may only be 50 to 60 percent effective”. 50% is the minimum effectiveness threshold that the Government has set to approve a vaccine - so this is a statement of the bureaucratic standard, not the actual effectiveness of what they have been testing (and already substantially know).
Actually, he is in a position to know that those candidates are running around 75-90% effective (and they plan on using two separated shots, for even greater effectiveness). Effectiveness is well demonstrated in Phase One and Phase Two trials, which are already complete.
He further downplays the effect of pre-production on the schedule.
When a vaccine receives approval, they will have millions of doses already prepared, to ship the next day - and are prepared to scale up to tens of millions of doses per month, in the following month or two.
Bottom Line: By Inauguration Day we will be deep into mass vaccination of at risk population and front line health care personnel, and transitioning into widespread general mass vaccination.
So Fauci is deliberately spinning the facts, to make things seem worse than they are. A flood of vaccine is imminent, and will crush this virus in record time.
Fauci is the one who is killing and sickening American people and the US economy with his always negative statements. He is the worm in the wood destroying from the inside.

So the vaccine won’t do anything. A person will still test positive. It won’t prevent “initial infection.” It will prevent them from getting sick.
So.....have the disease, but feel good and spread it around.

This is the same guy who claims you can beat COVID-19 by huffing hydrogen peroxide, that sunscreen causes skin cancer, claims HIV doesn’t cause AIDS, and has been hit multiple times by the FDA with warnings for making illegal claims about the snake oil he sells actually having some medical benefit.
AstraZeneca’s trial paused briefly twice. One time because one person out of over 50,000 participants in multiple countries had symptoms which turned out to be an undiagnosed case of multiple sclerosis, and a second time when one person developed symptoms and was briefly hospitalized.
Vaccine trials are always paused whenever anyone has any symptoms or problems. This is done to ensure it’s not caused by the vaccine itself to protect the health of the participants. If you catch the flu while testing a vaccine, the whole trial gets paused until they can determine your symptoms are ONLY caused by the flu and not the vaccine. This is normal. This is putting safety above all else. Pausing trials is NOT an indication that anything is wrong.
ENDING the trial would be an indication that something was wrong.
