Open letter to Christians who don't plan to vote for Trump
WND ^ | October 26, 2020 | David Kupelian

Posted on 10/26/2020 9:28:32 PM PDT by Misty Delta

Popular evangelical pastor John Piper made his case for Christians not voting for either Donald Trump or Joe Biden.

Piper makes clear Biden’s far-left policies are abhorrent to Christians, acknowledging that they’re geared toward what Piper describes as “baby-killing, sex-switching, freedom-limiting and socialistic overreach.”

But what about Trump, whose policies for the past four years have proven to be overwhelmingly consistent with, and supportive of, evangelical Christian sensibilities and concerns? Donald Trump is, in fact, widely regarded as the most pro-life president of our lifetime. Likewise, as president he has been the best friend of Israel in a generation, courageously recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving the U.S. Embassy there – something many previous presidents of both parties promised but failed to do.

And Trump has consistently championed religious freedom and freedom of speech, both under brutal attack by the radical left, which is essentially hostile to Christianity.

So what’s the problem? Piper is concerned that Trump’s personal failings, specifically four things – his “unrepentant boastfulness,” his “vulgarity,” his “factiousness” and his past “sexual immorality” – are also, like abortion and socialism, “deadly,” even potentially “nation-corrupting.” Therefore, he said, he will not vote for either candidate.

Putting aside Piper’s odd moral equivalence between rampant abortion and boastfulness, does the good pastor not realize that when you vote for a president, you are not choosing only one leader and his policy agenda, but a multitude of leaders and policies in every area of life, and therefore a whole “future” for the country, as Franklin Graham put it?

Most prominently, you are choosing a vice president who may well become president (as has happened 14 times). You are also choosing judges with lifetime tenure who will decide issues of stupendous importance that affect every American.

Welcome to FR.

I haven’t seen, nor thought about WND, in years.

Didn’t realize they are still in existence.

I posted article about John Piper’s opinion. And it’s stunning to me how some in the Christian world are taking him more seriously than even Catholics take the pope! Isn’t Protestantism all about individual conscience before God? Who cares what Piper says?! He’s totally depraved like everyone else. And could actually learn a thing or two from Trump’s better qualities.

Thank you for posting this. I don’t know who Piper is, but he seems to be an inferior intellect

"He who does not oppose the tools of Satan on the Federal courts, is himself a tool of Satan."

We're looking at YOU, John Piper...

John MacArthur is supporting Trump. And he’s also the only one of the bunch who has taken a profound stance against the state govt lockdown discrimination against churches.

Trump could get some of those votes but he will need to convince them that he will be a uniter in chief.

They want peace on earth. It is not likely to happen but just some rhetoric their way would go a long way.

Piper accused Pres. Trump of “strife stirring”. Is he blaming Pres. Trump for BLM/Antifa? Is he talking about Pres. Trump calling for the rioters to be arrested? What in the world is he talking about?

I think it is neat how Our Lord played a yuge prank on Hillary. She picked Trump as her opposing candidate of choice. Ya know, because what Evangelical Christian is going to vote for a twice-divorced, womanizing playboy?

In steps God.

Trump gets all the media attention because every lamestreamer is gonna make sure Trump is Hillary's opponent. So much so, that the other Republican hopefuls are complaining of all the free advertising Trump is getting - one million dollars worth.

The media did such an admirable job that people who didn't even know much about him became intrigued enough to vote him into office.

She gets the media to say nice things about him.
People like what they see.
Trump then beats the pants off Hillary.

PRICELESS

It was a real nanner-nanner-boo-boo moment.

You beat me to it :-)

And if Trump did something sexually immoral it was in the past.

What does that have to do with now?

I have been no angel in that department but I know it is wrong and ask forgiveness.

Killing millions of babies? And currently supporting it? That’s a tiny bit different.

Biden and pelosi and all other Democrats are not asking for forgiveness for abortion. They still support it.

Wholeheartedly.

I don’t think he’s the only one who took a stand- a number of pastors around the country have- Even the Jews took a stand, and are being persecuted for it by the Jew Haters Deblasio and Cuomo

Jesus said, “Render unto Ceasar the things that are Ceasar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” We are not choosing a spiritual leader or a pastor or a rabbi, but a national/worldly leader. Trump has more intelligence, common sense, internal guiding principles and more guts to stand up to corrupt swamp creatures than Biden will ever have.

If voting Chtistians can’t choose between these two, and it’s the only choice there is, then they are truly self-righteous and foolish.

You are correct Bob. I should clarify. I was speaking not in reference to all religious leaders, but to the individuals in the same fold and mold as John Piper. Both Pastors MacArthur and Piper are considered “Neo-Calvinist” Christians and vocalize similar stances on theology and other matters of doctrine.
