During Thursday's presidential debate, Donald Trump claimed that wind turbines kill "all the birds."
Wind turbines kill about 234,000 birds a year, whereas cats kill 2.4 billion.
North America may have lost nearly 3 billion birds, a quarter of its total bird population, since 1970.
During Thursday's final 2020 presidential debate, President Donald Trump repeated a claim he's made throughout his presidency: that wind turbines are extremely deadly to birds.
"I know more about wind than you do," Trump told former Vice President Joe Biden. "It's extremely expensive, kills all the birds, it's very intermittent, it's got a lot of problems."
Trump is wrong. Although wind turbines do kill some birds every year, they're not responsible for many avian deaths relative to other causes, and they certainly do not kill "all the birds."

What a joke Business Insider is - it’s never been a serious publication, and now it’s getting its site hits by getting into the over-crowded Trump Resistance media field.
She falls into the same trap she set for Trump.
Some birds are killed by cats.
Therefore, wind turbines don't kill all the birds.
There are still some birds alive in the world.
Therefore, cats don't kill all the birds.
When did the friggin world get so stupid?
And what's next?
A ban on cats?
Cut their subsidies?
Good post. Send her an email.
Birds are part of the “food chain”. Nature happens.
Environmentalists only like wind farms when you are proposing a conventional power plant. When you are planning a wind farm, however, they oppose them just as intensely as they would Three Mile Island.
The key to understanding enviros is to know that, whatever youre planning, theyre against it. And specifically, Ive read numerous articles about wind farms killing birds. Written by environmentalists.
Don’t care about the birds. It is the bats that windmills kill that farmers need.
“A ban on cats?”
No, we just need common-sense cat control laws.
The windmill fields in Banning Pass, just west of Palm Springs, were called the migratory Cuisinart 20 years ago. It takes several full time employees to collect the carcasses. They apparently have a waiver to laws/regulations protecting endangered species.
Laz would hit it.
Im proud of every kill in my cats personal tally. Besides the point isnt it. Why is this comment plucked from the debate? If this is what they’re hitchin their waggon to, let them have at it. Ridiculous!!
I got it. Big smile resulting.
If getting rid of Wind Turbines saves just ONE Bird’s Life it is worth it.
The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System in the Mojave Desert doesn’t just kill Birds, it cooks them at the same time.
Someone should put a Cat Rescue Facility at the Base of the Generating Tower. They would save a fortune in Cat Food.
A ban on cats?
Or as Joe would say, a can on bats?
Cats are invasive. Exterminate the feral cats. Now
Oh my goodness another one.
These people are literally nuts.
Same is true with solar and battery operated items. Solar panels and lithium batteries are totally destructive to the environment. And who knows how many birds or other critters get fried when they get between the path of the sun and a solar panel. And just wait until all those electric car owners get the bill to put in a new battery for their car. Hope they sell it before three years are up.
And both are not cost effective without heavy subsidies. Just ask California. That is, when they are not having brown outs.
I'm so tired of being lied to by this MSM. Someone is getting rich off of this at our expense.
Susie Neilson should have talked to me. We have had numerous cats through the years and all have died from disease. We have lots of birds in out cedar trees. Not one of them has killed a bird.
How do the cats get that far off the ground?
“””There’s a lot of difference between cats killing sparrows, crows, pigeons, etc. and wind turbines slicing up eagles, condors, owls, etc.”””
That is my understanding as well. Wind turbines principally kill prey birds who are looking down and get zapped by the wind turbine blades.
On the other hand, maybe the Leftist Zealots are advocating that ‘pussy cats’ need to be eradicated to protect the sparrows.
I don't know where Business Insider or MSN gets their number from, but the generally accepted number of birds killed per year by wind turbines is 1 billion. However, they are correct about the cats.
