President Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order creating a new classification of policy-making federal employees that could strip swaths of the federal workforce of civil service protections just before the next president is sworn into office.
The order would create a new Schedule F within the excepted service of the federal government, to be composed of employees in confidential, policy-determining, policy-making, or policy-advocating positions, and instructs agency heads to determine which current employees fit this definition and move themwhether they are members of the competitive service or other schedules within the excepted serviceinto this new classification.

“And I would add that at least a third of them could be laid off tomorrow, government agencies at every level would continue to operate, and most would do so more efficiently than they do now.”
I find it to be deliciously ironic that when there is some huge snowstorm in the DC area, roughly half of the “non-essential” government workers are told to stay home. It’s like some force compels a government spokesman to admit that half of the workers aren’t needed...which, of course, begs the question of “if they’re non-essential, then why in Hell are we paying them?”
Note: in the case of the government, efficiency is generally measured by how LITTLE it does. Less done = more efficiency.
As to your entire post, an uncle of mine who retired from a career with the Dept. of Agriculture about 5 years ago has agreed with you since shortly after he started his career there.

The objective of this move is to set up the ability to fire the politicized SES and similarly situated creeps that actually run the country for our elected puppet actors.

It will probably end up like the U.S. Attorneys now where they all are cleared out with a new administration.

How about we run the bureaucracy our way for four years and then cut it to the ground when we leave? DJT is just the man to do it.

I think this is an excellent and well over due reclassification to a portion of the federal bureaucracy. Keep in mind that for one page of law writing coming out of Congress, 100s to 1000s of pages of implementing regulations are typically ginned up that implement the law. These regs are too often a tangled mess generated by agenda driven decisions and collusion with special interests. Even well intentioned and crafted laws can be and often are twisted by regs to be not recognizable or even the opposite of the lawmakers intent.
Persons setting policy, regulations and supervision need accountability for their actions and the quality of their performance. Entrenched civil servants are virtually immune from accountability.

Since Trump announced this before the election, he must have decided he didn’t have a chance of winning Virginia.

I “lived” and worked in WDC for 30 years. So many government “workers “ at all levels are self-entitled, rude and completely unproductive in any sense.

Assume
that post is correct and VA is tied. Lots of swamp jobs in VA, and in fact that is a major reason why VA has been voting blue.

and never get laid-off. Now, now they get laid off when the evil Republicans shut the government down.
Of course they are rehired as soon as the government is funded again and they deserve back pay for all that work they missed.
No way I am going to add this </s>

The danger is that this means that the Democrats, once in power, can fire any Trump supporter, or even Republican. If there actually were any, sure.

Hasn’t he been rather busy being under investigation and under attack? Or have you forgotten the impeachment hearings? We do not always see *everything* that goes on.
