Cornyn says he broke with Trump on deficit, border wall, but kept opposition private
Star-Telegram ^ | Oct 18 2020 | GORDON DICKSON

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn acknowledged Friday that at times he has disagreed with President Trump on issues such as budget deficits and debt, tariffs and trade agreements and border security.

But, the senior Republican senator from Texas, who is being challenged by Democrat MJ Hegar, said he chose to work on those disagreements with the president’s staff in private discussions, rather than by publicly voicing his opposition.

That’s the same logic NeverTrumpers used to vote for Hillary! last time by.

That's the insanity of such a position.

It's not that such a FReeper would stay home. No, they would VOTE for the Democrat who has the following positions:

- Stop the sale of assault weapons to the public

- Pass common-sense gun safety legislation to require background checks on every single gun sale

- Calling for state and local officials to end open carry.

- Building a path to citizenship for undocumented residents

Folks, I understand that sentiment. Hell, I come from a state where I have been disenfranchised for at least 45 years and my vote means absolutely squat. And they are passing ranked voting (it will pass, I have no doubt) which means no Republican is ever going to get into office again here.

But back to this subject, we have to wrest control of committees from the Leftists.

I never thought the Left would use those committees as they did the last four years, but they used them strictly as a political weapon of sabotage to simply stall for 2020.

In my life, I know politics is dirty, but we have seen now what they are willing to do, and...there is nothing they won’t do if they have control of a committee.

Nothing.

I hope we can keep the Senate. Look where we would likely be if the Left had control of the Senate Intelligence Committee. We saw what they did with the House Intelligence Committee, and that was pretty destructive.

No. We have to find a way to keep the Senate and get the house. If we keep the Senate, we can take someone like Cornyn and put him on the Senate Sewer Committee or something like that. But we need control of committees.

Ugghh.... not much of a choice between Cornholeo and a Rat so we’re stuck with him for the foreseeable future until someone steps forward to end his reign of Rinoism.

“He is just fortunate we need him to control the Senate.’

Agree there! He does seem to know just how far he go, and get away with it.

I and my wife voted for Corn-in. Didn’t think he’d pass the primary, but he did. Well, at least he’s a R when it comes to the count of heads. Even if he is empty headed. If I live long enough to vote him out again in the primary, I will.

You say the committees are in the control of the left

But the GOP runs the senate, so the committees do what the GOP leadership allows

This is why I won’t cry if a number of nevertrump senators lose and the GOP loses the Senate. That will prove a chance for MAGA candidates to rise in the party, and when the GOP retakes the Senate it will be with a MAGA mindset not a nevertrump mindset

And sometimes you can’t win long-term except by losing in the near term . Romney had to lose in 2012 to clear the way for Trumps nomination four years later. America last Republicanism had to lose to open the way for America First Republicanism to win

I accept that you say that respectfully so, I am not going to accept your accusation that I engage in groupthink as an ad hominem attack, but I am going to disagree with you, Rintintin, and maintain that your approach is simply political suicide.

Especially with this election cycle. ESPECIALLY with this one. Do you think that, if they get the upper hand, they WON’T pack the court?

Do you think if they get control, they WON’T get rid of the filibuster?

That they won’t push for DC and Puerto Rico Statehood?

Do you think that if they get control, they won’t change every voting rule that can be changed without a Constitutional Amendment in order to ensure Republicans will never gain a majority again?

If we allow the left to control committees in the Senate and in the House, that is what will happen.

That is not “sheeple thinking”. That is REAL thinking.

They do have control of the Senate Intelligence committee, Burr has let Warner steer the committee even though Burr is supposedly chair.

I just sent him a message letting him know that the only reason I am voting for him is to keep the Senate Republican to support Trump.

I want and expect Trump to win, so I’m not frightened about what a Democrat Senate can do. As long as they’re well short of veto proof numbers, the most they can do is obstruct. They can’t successfully initiate anything.

Yes. The fact that we controlled the Senate is the ONLY reason Trump was not impeached for purely political agendas, illegally framed investigations, and not for real misbehavior.

That is the ONLY reason.

We now see how it will be going forward if they have control. Never in my life would I have thought we would see that, but we did, and it ONLY happened because the Left controls the House.

If they didn’t, it would never, Never, NEVER have happened.

Yes, I was clear on that. I was talking about the HOUSE. All of this mischief has emanated from the HOUSE, not the Senate.

Think...just THINK of what they would have done had they controlled both. And throwing the scumbag Cornyn to the dogs would only make the Left stronger and even happier.

I honestly can’t believe people would even think this is a consideration after watching the last four years.

They do control both.
Warner runs that committee.
They have been worse than useless because of it.

“I just sent him a message letting him know that the only reason I am voting for him is to keep the Senate Republican to support Trump.”

Agree, he’s been PERFECT on Trump’s judges. And if we lose the courts, then, literally, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

I sure wish this concept wasn’t over the IQ level of a number of people here.

Had to hold my nose and vote for Cornyn.

Same here. Even a RINO like Cornhole was preferable M.J. Hegar.

I’ll vote for Cornyn because he’s a slightly smaller pile of excrement than his Demonicrat opponent.

States need to institute election reforms where the electorate can cast either a positive or a negative vote for one of the candidates for a political office. The candidate with the most positive (or least negative) votes wins.

Kavanaugh and Gorsuch have already voted with Democrats on very important cases. Counting GOP judges is a fools errand.

Meanwhile, John Cornyn and the do-nothing GOP Senate allowed Mueller’s Democrats to control the “Trump” DOJ for two years and failed miserably during the the hoax impeachment to substantively support POTUS.

So actually some things are more important than SCOTUS. President Trump’s first term has been stolen by the Uniparty and 60 million Trump voters have been defacto disenfranchised. These four years are gone. Forever. Sadly it seems that fact is “over the IQ level” of the GOP plantation bosses who insist we stay slaves to the likes John Cornyn (RINO-K Street).

Sounds like you guys are having a ‘Chronological Problem’, since it sounds like you’re making a great case for purifying the Republican Party during the Primary.

This may help:
