This weekend I posted (see link above) impressive turnout numbers for Republicans in the "WOW" counties surrounding Milwaukee. With about 20% of their 2016 turnout already in, Republican and Republican-leaning voters are early voting in substantial numbers. A deeper dive into the numbers reveals a somewhat surprising statistic: Women comprise a disproportionate share of these "modeled" Republican voters in the WOW counties.
Roughly 659K early votes have been cast in Wisconsin and, according to Democrat-firm TargetSmart, the female/male breakdown is 55% (f) vs. 41% (m), with 4% of unknown gender.
In the WOW counties, we see the exact same gender %s:
55% women vs. 41% men (4% unknown).
TargetSmart models these early voters, and at this point gives Democrats a 3-point edge in Wisconsin (in other words, if the early votes were counted today, Democrats would lead Republicans by 3 percentage points). Keep in mind that Democrats always do well in early voting, and this year they have been pushing mail-in voting in every state.
Why are these WOW counties numbers very good news? Because exit polls showed that the 2016 Wisconsin electorate was 51% women vs. 49% men (CNN and ABCNews), and that women supported Clinton over Trump by +10 points. Indeed, one reason for this gender gap was that many WOW county (suburban) Republican women did not vote in 2016--these counties, along with liberal Dane County (U. of Wisconsin) were the only areas where Republican turnout dropped in 2016 as compared to 2012.
Bottom line: If Republicans are doing very well in Wisconsin early voting with a gender split of 55% to 41%, this bodes well, especially the strong female numbers in the WOW counties. Bonus: Michigan is looking the same, with Republicans, according to TargetSmart, tied with Democrats in early voting, but with a gender split of double-digits. Wait until the men start voting in-person....

Point taken. However, when women show up to vote who are modeled as solid Republican voters, that’s a good sign, even we lose a few here or there. Keep in mind that Sinema ran as a centrist and, btw, she barely won in probably the worst year that a Republican could run.

I certainly prefer to see Republican women voting to Democrat women. And unlike the Sinema/McSally race, we know how the vote came out with Trump in 2016. And I don’t know of ANYONE who has abandoned him, but know two in my circle who are now supporting Trump (versus 1 vote Hillary, 1 not voting in 2016).
I just don’t trust “modeling” by “TargetSmart, D, R, or other. That reminds me of the “statespoll” guy who “adjusts” the polls.
Repeal the 19th Amendment and this problem goes away.
It’s a pretty big stretch to read into these numbers that these Republican women are voting for Trump. I hope it is so but this just say that. It would make sense to do a poll of the area (if i were the Trump campaign) but without doing that i can’t accept the assumption at this point. Would LOVE for your assumptions to be right

I think the concern is suburban women. Based on everything we’re hearing Trump has a weakness there (because of his tone which is silly). So if there is a spike in voting among them the question is why? What’s the trigger? Tone or Terror?

IMO- woman will vote for security and i can’t imagine they are happy with what’s gone down in the state of Wisconsin recently.
So... WTF does WOW supposed to represent? Not everyone on the planet loves in your neighborhood and is clued in on this terminology.
