Broadway Will Remain Closed at Least Through May
New York Times ^ | Oct. 9, 2020 | Michael Paulson

Broadway is going to remain closed at least through next May 30, which is 444 days after all 41 theaters went dark as part of New York’s effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

On Friday, the Broadway League, a trade organization representing producers and theater owners, announced that it was suspending all ticket sales through that date.

But when will Broadway actually reopen?

“That’s the question of the hour and the day and the month and the year, because we truly don’t know,” Charlotte St. Martin, the League’s president, said in an interview on Friday. “Certainly a lot of shows are making their plans, and some think we will open in the summer, and I hope they are right. But I think people’s bets are the fall of next year.”

Just because Governor Kervorkian and Warren Wilhelm Jr killed more people than the 9/11 terrorists, you’re going to skip your visit to the Big A?

Now where are people going to go to see people dancing around and pretending to be somebody they aren’t?

I mean besides Democrat candidates.

Many here and on Reddit say those unemployed who worked on Broadway (and most other services-related industries) just need to get the right skill set to schlep boxes at Amazon in the ‘new economy’

Democrats do to NY City what 2 world wars, a cold war and a muslim sneak attack on 9-11-01 could not.

Good thing A.O.C. kept that Amazon installation out of NYC.

The only job openings I’ve seen online here are for Amazon fulfillment centers and Amazon affiliate delivery services.

That and the usual minimum wage fast food, grocery store stocking, and temporary agencies looking for light industrial workers. But hey, DoorDash is advertising “earn up to $400 a week”. Early last year, they were advertising “earn up to $1400 a week”

“Most supposed B’way musicals are rehashed pop music turned into a show”

So true. I really don’t think they should call them Broadway musicals anymore,,, call them “pop plays.”

No way can these modern pop plays compare with the musical scores of “South Pacific,” “Oklahoma,” “Funny Girl,” “My Fair Lady,” and “The King & I.”

I think there are still some great composers out there who could create brillant work if given the chance. But that’s the problem - - Broadway has turned into a pop (and political) machine and is no longer a place for beautiful music.

Probably a good thing that Broadway’s doors are now closed.

The enemedia is acting as though closed entertainment venues are the only reason people are avoiding NYC; they don’t want to admit people realize there is a good chance they could be Mau Maued as well (and the cops will do nothing out of fear for their jobs, pensions, their very freedom).

I live a dozen miles west of Manhattan and haven’t been there for many years; there is simply no reason to do so. Our pizza is far better here in northeastern NJ, and everything is lot cheaper.

Yes, I’m just west of NYC and most jobs are with Amazon. You can really see the impact of the transition from a manufacturing economy to a bread-and-circuses economy, as well as the flight of financial jobs to Charlotte and such.
