Broadway is going to remain closed at least through next May 30, which is 444 days after all 41 theaters went dark as part of New Yorks effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
On Friday, the Broadway League, a trade organization representing producers and theater owners, announced that it was suspending all ticket sales through that date.
But when will Broadway actually reopen?
Thats the question of the hour and the day and the month and the year, because we truly dont know, Charlotte St. Martin, the Leagues president, said in an interview on Friday. Certainly a lot of shows are making their plans, and some think we will open in the summer, and I hope they are right. But I think peoples bets are the fall of next year.

Which is a shame because what will that do to the wonderful all not white cast of Hamilton.
Which is odd because the original real cast was all white.
Any broadway fans, aside from Joe in the back row?
Those buildings have rent payments, maintenance and heating, security, weather, lighting and other manditory service requirements, as well as contractual obligations to meet.
How will they meet these financial obligations, when the DEMOCRATS are demanding that you not conduct business?
Broadway will open when you get a republican mayor.
The Schubert and Niederlander organizations have owned the bulk of Broadway theater properties for decades. Huge wealth in that land and whole building ownership...they’ll survive a year of theater blackouts with their other tenants. Off & off off Broadway venues?
Liberal politicians have even destroyed Broadway, their own strongest voting bloc.
NYC dumbasses. They deserve everything they get.
Didnt know it was still open. Figured they would have been giving it away for free with all us bill paying folk laid up with the Covid and swearing to vote for Trump!(?)
I visited NYC 4 times from 2014 to 2018, thoroughly enjoyed each trip, and spent a lot of money each time. My experience was replicated millions of times each year by visitors from all over the world. There is nothing left in NYC to ever entice me to go back. Covid could be eliminated entirely, but the damage that Cuomo and DeBlasio have done will take years to recover. NYC cant even begin to revive until those two hacks are tossed out of office.
Or off-off-off-off-off-off Broadway?
Are there any open air stadiums left? Once we get through COVID-19, what about COVID-21, SARS, the Andromeda Strain or the Walking Dead Virus?
The actors, actresses, stagehands and musicians better have good day jobs.
I don't see how NYC ever recovers from this. I don't think that the current NYC voter demographic could elect Rudy Giuliani today. Stick a fork in it. Or build a wall around it.
Which is a shame because what will that do to the wonderful all not white cast of Hamilton and other hate America B$ posing as a musical or play..
I know for a fact (because I performed in one of these travesties) that much of what the audience hears in a modern B'way musical is recorded.
Most supposed B'way musicals are rehashed pop music turned into a show. The music of ABBA, The Four Seasons, Carole King, Billy Joel, John Lennon, etc. is turned into a stage production. Why not? There is no modern day Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe to actually write original music for real shows.
Thank God that those great shows have all been made into movies featuring real singers like Julie Andrews, Gordon MacRae, Judy Garland, Rosalind Russell, Howard Keel, even (shudder) Barbra Streisand.
Broadway is dead. It will eventually be replaced by recorded pop music and dancing robots. And a modern audience raised on TV and studio-produced pop garbage will never know the difference.
Itll come back but only with a handful of shows thatll be ready to go on at, say, a weeks notice. Nothing new is going to open until next fall.
New shows need packed houses to make back their money.
Phantom can run as long as Andrew Lloyd Webber wants to spend money on it.
But New York is going to come right back they say....
Hopefully that will send them back to the salt mines. Or will make them realize what the ruling commies care about them, aka nothing. But they will never get it Im sure.
Btw by all original white cast I mean the actual guys who fought to make this great country. I think how I put that is misleading. Clarifying here.
Thats interesting. I suppose they are liberals?
Yep they are liberals and NOW they are reaping what they have sewn!! LOL,LOL
I am a fan for broadway....but not their politics .... so seeing it close down doesn’t bother me in the least.... I have a child that was very into music theater....so gotta be a good dad, hence the interest.
