FNC’s Wallace: Kamala Harris Proved She Could Be a ‘Heartbeat Away from the Presidency’

Following Wednesday’s vice-presidential debate, Fox News Channel’s Chris Wallace suggested Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, was the winner given she, in his view, proved she could be a “heartbeat away from the presidency.”

Wallace argued that if Joe Biden and Harris came in the night leading, they left the night with the lead as well.

Contrary to the prevailing view in this forum, I think Wallace is correct and he properly identified one of the key issues of the debate.

Both Democrat candidates, Biden and Harris, went into the debate with the cloud about whether they were fit to be president of the United States. Biden because of his obvious dementia and Harris because of the likelihood she will accede to the office given Biden's health and age.

Biden walked out of the debate as someone who was lucid who did not live up to the billing of a demented doddering fool. He looked reasonably presidential. I don't like that judgment but there it is.

Harris went into the debate needing to demonstrate the gravitas to be president of United States. She did that. Put another way, she did not disqualify herself exactly as Joe Biden did not disqualify himself in his debate.

I think when we judge these debates we must judge them in the light of what did each candidate need to accomplish? Wallace identified correctly one of the needs of Harris. I believe Biden accomplish the same on his own behalf in his debate. I also believe that Trump must be regarded to have been behind in the polls (Real Clear Politics average) and therefore his objective was to turn the race around and win votes. I believe he failed in that test.

That is not to say he will lose the election nor is to say that he is certainly behind in the polls. But given what we know, adjusted by some pretty good news offered by Trafalgar polling, that verdict stands in my opinion.

To be honest, we all knew this would happen. We knew, or should have known, that no matter what Harris did, the liberals in the media would spin this as a win or at the least declare "She didn't harm herself and therefore it's a win"

Like Biden, she came across weak, not in command of the facts and just a cliché regurgitating machine. Yet she would be declared the winner.

If this were a prize fight and I was the referee, I would have stopped this in the late rounds and declared Pence the winner by TKO
