Chinese virologist who fled to the US after claiming Coronavirus was made in a military lab says her mother has now been arrested by Beijing

A Chinese virologist who claims the coronavirus was cooked up in a military lab has revealed that Chinese authorities have arrested her mother.

Li-Meng Yan, who claims to be a former researcher at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, says the virus was built by merging the genetic material of two bat coronaviruses.

The news was first announced by Guo Wengui, a fugitive Chinese tycoon who is known for his criticism against the Communist Party, during a radio show this week.

Ms Yan confirmed her mother's reported arrest to US-based website The Epoch Times yesterday but did not provide any further details.

Yan, who fled to the US in April following her bombshell claim, said COVID-19 was 'man-made' and 'not from nature'.

Her Twitter account was taken down in mid-September after she accused China of intentionally manufacturing and releasing COVID-19.

In an interview with Fox News' Tucker Carlson, Yan claimed she was suspended because 'they don't want the people to know this truth'.

'I have evidence to show why they can do it, what they have done, how (they did it),' she told Fox News.

'The scientific world also keeps silent... works together with the Chinese Communist Party, they don't want people to know his truth. That's why I get suspended, I get suppressed, I am the target that Chinese Communist Party wants disappeared.'

The Twitter account of the Chinese virologist remains down and a message on the page now reads: 'Account suspended. Twitter suspends accounts which violate the Twitter Rules.

Yan appeared on Fox News' Tucker Carlson Tonight show on Tuesday night. After the segment aired, the Fox News show also accused Facebook of censorship after saying they had been blocked from sharing the interview segment on the social media platform

FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE CASE:

Yan has also published a report which she claims backs up her theory that the contagion was built by merging the genetic material of two bat coronaviruses.

She said its spike protein – a structure on the surface of the virus which it uses to bind with cells – was edited to make it easier for the virus to latch on to human cells.

But scientists have slammed her report as ‘unsubstantiated’ and said it ‘cannot be given any credibility’.

Research papers have already determined the origin of the virus as bats, leading to top experts dismissing suggestions the virus was created by humans as having ‘zero evidence’.

SARS-CoV-2 — the scientific name of the pathogen — is the seventh coronavirus known to infect humans and jumped to people after an earlier version of it mutated. The previous virus is thought to be one that infected bats and then reached humans via another animal.

Ms Yan’s report has not been published in a scientific journal and has not been peer-reviewed, meaning it has not been checked and approved by scientists.

But it has gained widespread public attention, being viewed more than 150,000 times since it was posted yesterday on the website Zenodo, which is operated by the European Organisation for Nuclear Research.

Her paper can be found here for those who can understand the science:

I know I must be a terrible person, but whenever I see her I imagine a giant flashing sign screaming, "Crazy lady."

Of course, that could just be me.

RE: Of course, that could just be me.

Two questions:

1) Did you read her paper?

2) If her paper is scientifically fanciful, why can’t the Chinese Communist party, with all her resources, publish a counter paper to refute the science behind her paper?

Why arrest her mother? What does she have to do with this.

3) She has a good job in Hong Kong in one of the top universities in Asia, with financial backing from W.H.O. What does she gain by doing what she did ( unless of course, as you say, she has some sort of madness that gives her a masochistic desire for punishment ).

Your statement about how she looks is akin to judging a book by its cover.

Some questions:

1) Did you folks read her paper? If she were a fraud, why bother publishing a paper for the world ( including the scientific community ) to read?

2) If her paper is scientifically fanciful, why can’t the Chinese Communist party, with all her resources, publish a counter paper to refute the science behind her paper?

Why arrest her mother? What does she have to do with this.

3) She has a good job in Hong Kong in one of the top universities in Asia, with financial backing from W.H.O. What does she gain by doing what she did ( unless of course, as you say, she has some sort of madness that gives her a masochistic desire for punishment ).

Maybe you can help us by answering these questions.

Everything you say is correct and I can't disagree.

I have an emotional reaction to her.

It's an emotional reaction that commands me to "Watch out."

Excellent points. Why would she risk her and her family’s lives coming out with the info if it were not true?

The true scandal is that none of the international research organizations that represent the peer reviewed scientific community have defended her right to publish the research without being threatened and “disappeared” by the CCP. The CCP has successfully intimidated the scientific world into doing their own dirty work without firing a shot. What intellectual frauds and cowards.

RIP truth!

If you understand the Chinese term “wu mao” you probably should find another target to attack.

I believe her and the other Chinese virologists and physicians who have sounded the alarm about what Xi did and have either been arrested or killed or their families arrested because of it.

I find her quite credible, it was a lengthy interview and she spoke freely and without wavering.

Why not all Chinese? Anyone of them, regardless of their better intentions is subject to ummm, pressure, applied by the threat of or actual overt harm to their family members back in the old country.

Say, it turns out your mother is a near exact tissue match to a polit bureau member who needs a new heart, we can keep looking for a better match if you do this one little thing for us...

It seems like I was saying this just yesterday....
...oh wait.

In Chinese: 五毛 Wu Mao ) The term actually means 50 cents.

Here is an explanation of the term

EXCERPT

On every major public occasion in China, like the current National Day Golden Week holiday that began Oct. 1, the nation’s military is deployed to appear in endless parades and public outreach events.

Online, a different sort of army is also deployed. The “50 Cent Army” is a group of state-backed internet commenters whose numbers have reportedly ranged from 500,000 to two million. The root of the nickname - the idea that the government pays 50 renminbi cents per pro-China post - has long been debunked.

However, “wu mao” (or “50 cents” in Chinese) is still a common online insult, and even the official state media have acknowledged that there are government agents posing as ordinary, patriotic netizens.

A Harvard study published in August analyzed 44,000 posts related to an email leak to paint a picture of this “army.”

It concluded that “50 Centers” are not raging Chinese youth typing furiously away in their moms’ basements, as the stereotype goes, but government bureaucrats in unrelated fields like taxation or sports management, employed overtime to churn out posts allegedly by ordinary citizens.

They are not typical trolls. Instead of arguing about jailed dissidents or naval disputes, they mostly blanket the internet with blandly positive posts. “Almost none of the Chinese government’s 50c party posts engage in debate or argument of any kind,” the Harvard study said.

Not surprisingly, “50 Centers” are found to be busiest when the state wishes to boost patriotism (like National Day) or when it wishes to cover up news, like October independence protests in Hong Kong.
