An NFL official told the teams not to worry over the leagues crashing TV ratings, and said that the election and COVID are the reasons for lower viewership.
Sports Business Journal recently reported that NFL media operations man, Brian Rolapp, sent a memo to all the teams to allay their fears over the consistently bad ratings. Rolapp reasoned that both presidential politics and coronavirus hysteria was naturally diverting the attention of fans and resulting in fewer viewers.
The 2020 presidential election and other national news events are driving substantial consumption of cable news, taking meaningful share of audience from all other programming, reporter John Ourand claimed that Rolapp told the teams. Historically, NFL viewership has declined in each of the past six presidential elections.

Playing the Baghdad Bob role, huh?
Nothing to see here....
LOL!
True Libtards. Getting their ass handed to them and don’t even know it.
Now how is a sports media supposed to know that? You know he never took Latin.
I don’t even click on Youtube highlights anymore.
I hope ESPN goes down with the ship too — more pain for Disney.
He's a graduate of the "Oswald Bates School of Journalism."
I went to the world series for all the home games in 92 and 93. There was a lottery so to speak but I managed to get them both years. The cheap seats price was $30.
I haven't seen my cousin in some time now. Hope he's okay.
One thing that is very clear.
Players and Owners are more tone deaf than Hillary Clinton.
It's from Animal House, of course.
Oh yeah okay NFL.... Will see where low ratings lead to over time.
And I never will!
“Are you going to believe me or your lyin’ eyes?
COVID are the reasons for lower viewership.”
This is totally counterintuitive. Seriously.
Elections did nothing to hurt the NFL’s ratings in 2016. COVID-19 forces people to stay at home and watch TV. But kudos to Goodell and his army of woke drones for their denial skills.
They know damn well it’s not about that at all. We don’t like being lectured to and called racists by spoiled, pampered, full grown babies.
Baghdad Bob was a piker compared to our MSM.
I'm looking forward to the day Stephen A. and Max Kellerman leave ESPN. The entire network has gone too political for me to watch. Since I don't care about MLB, NFL, and NBA anymore, there's no reason for me to watch it.
I will return at the end of November. when college hoops return. They need to get rid of Big 10 homer Dan Dakich, he bristles whenever Gonzaga beats a power conference program.
Not the NFL, but this weekend I turned on a college game for a couple minutes - learned that I felt absolutely no desire to watch, plus one of the first things I saw was a non-player on the sidelines wearing a shirt that said Stop Racism.
Doing without FB is easier than I imagined.
I will continue to post this until I see it reported in the NY Times, WaPo, and on NBC, and CNN
