The Enviros & Dems have bitched for years about recycling...

Now, these contractors are doing such, and the bitching grows louder.

No doubt they (and we) are saving money by not having to transport the metal long distances to get 25 cents a pound or whatever.

Talk about a click-bait headline.

Since when did “old scrapped ineffective fencing” become “taxpayer-funded border wall”?

The real scandal would be if the contractors were selling the stuff at a profit and that profitable opportunity wasn’t built into the government contract. Clearly there’s no profitable opportunity or they wouldn’t be letting the Mexicans have it free.

In fact, it’s more likely that it would cost them more to dispose of it any other way, including taking it to a recycling center themselves.

I really don't see a problem with this, it benefits both. It would probably be more expensive for the contactor to pay the labor, fuel and equipment cost than they could possibly get from taking it to a US scrap yard.

I bet the author thought this would be some kind of gotcha moment they could slime on Trump when all it seems to be is good financial practices.

Hi. Hope you are doing well.

In the fwiw department, hauling concrete (esp) and scrap steel to Phoenix or Tucson is very expressive.

Just sayin

It would cost more to haul it than it’s worth. If the Mexicans will clean up and make 10$ a ton who cares?

STOP USING LOGIC.

We could haul it to a re-cycling center, and lose millions of dollars or shove it over to Mexico, where the standard of living is so low, that they will eat the concrete.

Most Americans have never been to Mexico and have no idea how poor the Mexican people really live.

It is a third world country with about 30% of the population living a decent financial life.

Two percent, the gangs and politicians live so high on the hog, that even the kalifornikator big shots don't live as well.

That leaves 68% of the population that are living in a limbo, which is closer to hell, than Heaven.

And this is eggsactly why the US leaves billions in war materiel over “there” rather than paying to ship it back here.

boogieman:“Hey, the debris fell on the Mexican side. It would be illegal for our people to cross the border to pick it up!”

calenel: The debris is certainly also on our side of the border, if not the US side of the wall. So Mexican illegals are crossing the border to clean up a mess that would otherwise cost us mucho $$.

article: contractors with a bulldozer and front-end loaders push the scrap metal onto the Mexican side,

“article: contractors with a bulldozer and front-end loaders push the scrap metal onto the Mexican side,”

The eco-whiner, whom you quoted, could easily have meant “Mexican side of the WALL,” which is how I read his quote. Could be he meant border. Doesn’t really matter since everything on the Mexican side of the WALL is effectively Mexico. In any case, Mexico is still paying for the cleanup, heh, heh.

The distance from the actual border varies as a function of terrain. it would be stupid to build directly on the border as Mexico, in a fit of pique, could just knock it down. And I am sure that they’re not going to build the wall in the middle of the Rio Grande, should they ever get to that part of the border.

Contractors who are replacing the border wall in Arizona are dumping leftover debris in Mexico... The witnesses — an ecologist who works in the desert region in Southern Arizona and people selling the metal online — told CBS 5 that the contractors are essentially giving away the old wall.
IOW, they don't have to blow money hauling the former wall debris, and some Mexican entrepreneurs are making some income. BTW, "an ecologist who works in the desert region in Southern Arizona" probably A) does that on our dime and B) votes D and opposes both walls.

US Taxpayers don’t have to pay to deal with the debris. Mexican scrappers make a few bucks. The desert floor gets cleaned-up.

Win-win-win. Tired of winning yet?
