It remains one of the most surprising facts about voting in the United States: While the popular vote elects members of Congress, mayors, governors, state legislators and even more obscure local officials, it does not determine the winner of the presidency, the highest office in the land....
The electoral system has also awarded the presidency to candidates with a plurality of the popular vote (under 50 percent) in a number of cases, notably Abraham Lincoln in 1860, John F. Kennedy in 1960 and Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1996....
Its just like in tennis, he said. Its how many sets you win and not how many games or points you win. You have to win the set, and in our system, you have to win the state.....
Lastly, an election-related case could find its way to the Supreme Court, which would lend greater importance to the judicial makeup of the court, Professor Wehle said.
It only takes five people with life tenure to actually amend this Constitution through a judicial opinion, she said.

yet you dont hear wailing and gnashing of teeth about how they conduct elections.
Nonsense. Those of us in the western part of the country have been grousing about the FACT that Ontario and Quebec decide who runs the country before we are finished voting.
The Great Canadian Cow: Feeds in the West, the Cream is harvested in the central provinces, and it 5#1+s on the Maritimes.
Even though the Maritimes seem to vote for the libs reliably...
In the United STATES of America, the STATES elect the President.
Here ends the lesson.
Big clue right there... theyre united states.
Part of this discussion goes to a lack of civics instruction in high school over the final three years. You can go and test a hundred folks in the age group of 20 to 25...fewer than 25-percent will be able to explain the Electoral College.
It’s the same issue with college students (even 4th year kids) who know nothing over WW I/WW II, the Civil War, or the depression era.
Erma Gawd. The Commue Times at it again
Ignorance. The popular vote does matter, but it’s more complicated than that.

We played rec b-ball Saturday morning, five games to 11, win by two. We were demolished twice, but won three close ones. Same deal; we are the winners.
“And we saw a lot of those idiots come out of the wood work after Trump was elected: But, she won the popular vote.”
We elect state by state, so she LOST the popular vote.
Trump won the popular vote in 30 states and Clinton only won in 20 states.
So President Trump won the popular vote.
It remains one of the most surprising facts about voting in the United States . . .
Only to idiots.

I’d like to see Jessie do a “man on the street” interview, to see just how many people know even elementary things every day citizens know about the electoral college, or as way too many spell it, “collage”. I’m guessing maybe one in ten.
