More than 70 bandits have been arrested three or more times in the last six months for muggings and armed robberies, and many are on the streets as judges give them multiple shots at freedom.
Among them is teenager Anderson Ortiz, who was sprung three times this spring following arrests in Queens and Brooklyn only to go on and violently mug an elderly Asian couple in May, according to police and court records.
Cops say Ortiz, 19, grabbed the 63-year-old male victim from behind as he walked along 60th Street near Bay Parkway, Brooklyn, punched him several times in the head and stole cash from his pocket. When the mans 62-year-old wife bravely intervened, Ortizs alleged accomplice, Daisy Saenz, pushed her to the ground and grabbed her purse, according to the criminal complaint.
During the arrest, the NYPD also charged Ortiz with sticking up a Myrtle Avenue BP gas station on April 21. He put his hand in his pocket and threatened to shoot the clerk, while his partner then emptied the register, according to prosecutors.
Judge Kim Petersen finally set bail at $50,000 total in those two cases, $25,000 each. But a week later, another judge reduced it to zero.
There were evidentiary issues with the cases and as a result the bail could not have continued, said Brooklyn District Attorney Spokesman Oren Yaniv.
Ortiz remains free as a bird despite five pending criminal cases in all of them, he was released without having to post bail.
Second-degree robbery aided by another Ortizs top charge in two cases is among two types of violent felonies that are not bail-eligible under the states new reforms. The law was intended to prevent people accused of non-violent offenses from being jailed because they cant afford bail.

Paging Charles Bronson..............
In casual conversation people confuse the terms “robbery”, “theft”, and “larceny”. Robbery is always a violent crime, and should never be ignored.
I grew up there and my brother still lives there like a lunatic. Everyone I knew has left except him, so now he took off for California for a vacation. I told him “Oh gee, that’s an improvement”.
Anyway his apartment is in Manhattan on W. 48th on the first floor and is ripe for burglaries which has happened twice to him, so he has GPS chips on his stuff and cameras everywhere and guess what he found recorded on his camera a few weeks ago? Two guys who went down his alley and ripped off two of his neighbors bikes.
You cant believe how blatant these guys are. The bikes were behind a fence so they used a garbage can to stand on and lift the bikes over the fence while knocking all kinds of stuff over and then the garbage can fell over which I assume made a lot of noise, they don’t care though, and they made off with the bikes 1-2-3
When I lived in Manhattan (mid 70’s to mid 80’s) no one I knew who had a bike kept it outside. That would have been foolish in the extreme. I lived on the west side.
It is in no way accidental that they had eliminated bail last year and then also let hardened criminals out of prison so quickly when the virus was first announced.
This whole thing has been scripted to...death.
Hillary beat Trump there by 23%. Yeah, they’re okay with Democrat policies.
The way to discourage cereal robbers is to cut off their supply of milk....oh wait, they said serial robbers...ok thats different...uhm...nevermind!
The Algerian strategy.
At what point do law abiding citizens ask “why are we paying taxes?” and then stop?
I’m sure de Blowsthehole will eventually deny it is happening or blame Pres. Trump for this.
Its only started. I believe its going to take 10 years for NYC to hit bottom.
NO BAIL!! Let them both get locked in a cage with, how did the fantasy from noted pedophile Peter Fonda go, "members of MS13"???
Concealed carry gun for citizens? Illegal.
Knives for self defense? Illegal.
Mace? Illegal.
Yet criminals abide by NONE of these laws.
Insanity.
Theyre OK with Democrat policies.
Yep. Thats why Reagan won twice, Pataki three times, Rockefeller four times, Giuliani two times, Bloomberg three times (when he was running as a Republican), and the members of the City Council who represent Black and Asian neighborhoods voted against defunding the police.
The rationale for this is that if you vote for Republican policies, that will help bring on the revolution. Pretty cool.
