During one of the more charged moments of the chaotic US presidential debate, former Vice President Joe Biden dropped a phrase from everyday Muslim and Arab vocabulary and lit up the internet.
Pressing President Donald Trump on when the American public would get to see his long-anticipated tax returns, Biden questioned: "When? Inshallah?" In certain vernacular, "inshallah" serves as a non-committal response to a question.
Taken literally, the term "inshallah," consists of three Arabic words (In sha' Allah) which translate into "if God wills it." Spiritually it represents a submission to God's will. It can perhaps be seen as the Muslim counterpart to the Yiddish adage, "Man plans, and God laughs."
Children in the Muslim world will often say that when a parent responds to a question with "inshallah," it signals an unfulfilled promise, while unreliable timekeeping is lightheartedly chalked up to "inshallah timing."
"Yes, Joe Biden said 'Inshallah' during the #Debates2020 debate," tweeted political commentator Wajahat Ali. "It literally means 'God willing,' but it's often used to mean, 'Yeah, never going to happen.' Example: My wife: Will you finally pick up your socks? Me: Inshallah. No, saying inshallah doesn't make you Muslim."
However, earlier this week, The New York Times reported that Trump had paid no federal income taxes in 10 out of 15 years beginning in 2000 because he reported losing significantly more than he made, citing more than two decades of tax information the paper obtained.
While many saw Biden's use of the phrase as a nod to their own experiences, others saw it as derogatory and drawing on cultural stereotypes about the Muslim and Arab world.

The day everything changed. Forever.
I Loved Trump telling him last night that he was never smart. Hilarious!
Maybe Valerie was on the other side of the hidden ear mike Biden was wearing...
:)
Rather that or the person feeding him what to say was an Arab
Im shocked he didnt say allah akbar
I know a few Muslims. Even have some good friends that are Muslims (a family).
They helped me out when times were especially tough and few would help.
That being said, I once quoted some stuff to my friend. He told me that it wasn’t in the Koran. I said, that’s correct, I am quoting other books.
I wrote chapter and verse down, on a piece of paper, for him to read later. I told him, use any legitimate Islamic source for that.
A week later, saw him again. He told me he looked the verses up and they said exactly what I told him they said.
I said, I know. I used Islamic sources myself.
Biden said it, because the person who is talking in his ear said it. Just like Biden said good luck while looking down at his podium to start the debate.
Could he find Minnesota, even on a wall map?
No different from a lot of Christians who *think* they know what’s in the Bible.
Very true. I just made a similar statement to someone else (in person).
Except that hopefully Christians, (or SHOULD by that term) believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God Who died for their sins.
1 John 5:5 King James Version
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
I pray that the veil is lifted for many Muslims (and others), so that they may see that Jesus Christ is THE Messiah and exactly Who He said He was.
2 Corinthians 3:16-17 New Revised Standard Version
16 but when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
It could be that K. Harris has converted to Islam or that Biden is taking Arabic lessons from Ilhan Omar.
Some muzzies have praised haram joe for using the word. He, like his former boss, has pledged allegiance to the crescent, and not to the cross.
Are you seeing Ilhan Omar on the SCOTUS? Just another RGB in a burka.
They are so focused on his FEDERAL income tax as if that’s the only tax in this world that counts.
It’s just ridiculous because what difference does it make how much of one specific tax he paid? Plus I love how he pointed out it was the loopholes that OBAMA put into place that he used as a businessman.
I didn’t even think that bad, but she and AOC would certainly be one of the new 13 on biden’s stacked court.
